Mon County Ballpark hosts local high schools in Class AAA Regional finale

May 22, 2023 - The West Virginia Black Bears are proud to announce they will be hosting game three of the Class AAA Region 1 baseball series between cross-town rivals Morgantown High School and University High School. In coordination with Monongalia County Commission and West Virginia University, the Bears will open the gates for the Mohigans and Hawks to play the finale of the best-of-three series on Wednesday, May 24, at 5:00 p.m.

Tickets will be available through each school's athletic departments upon the conclusion of the second game.

"This is an amazing opportunity for our organization and the community," said Leighann Sainato, the Black Bears General Manager. "We have always supported our local high school teams, and we are excited to partner with Monongalia County Commission and the university in hosting this game.

"We take pride in showcasing the best baseball in the region at The Mon, and to be able to do this on a local level with [these schools] is truly an honor."

With a 23-6 record, Morgantown High hosts the first game of the best-of-three series on Monday, May 22, at Dale Miller Field at Mylan Park. The teams will shift to University High's Shilling Field, also located at Mylan Park, for Game 2 on Tuesday, May 23. In the event both teams win one game, the final game will be played at The Mon.

"This will be the 2023 MoHawk baseball regionals," said County Commissioner Tom Bloom. "This is a special time for both high school's baseball players, and we want to share this moment with the residents."
