The rumors are true -- the West Virginia Moonshiners are roaring back into Kendrick Family Ballpark for five nights beginning on West Virginia Day, Friday, June 20. The Black Bears will don the alt jerseys every Monday game thereafter for "Moonshiner Mondays" with associated limited-edition merchandise releasing every Monday.
Who are the West Virginia Moonshiners?
The Moonshiners are an alternate name/team identity of the Black Bears that first debuted during a three-game series against the State College Spikes, July 17-19, 2018. The popular promotion focused on the state's rich history of moonshining, with alternate jerseys and logos filled with meaning (see below).
Why the Moonshiners?
Did you know it was almost the name of the team? When the Black Bears first moved from Jamestown, New York, to their current home in Granville, West Virginia, Rich Products held a naming contest for the new team. Though the West Virginia Black Bears ultimately prevailed, the West Virginia Moonshiners was a close second. The popularity of the name persisted until it was finally brought to life in 2018.
