Year 6 of the MLB Draft League kicks off Tuesday, June 2 with plenty of talent across all six teams, featuring prospects from NCAA four-year colleges, junior college products with power-four commitments, the prep class of 2026 and international players.
In each of the past two seasons, 38 players were selected in the MLB Draft in the same year they played in the Draft League, the most in picks in league history. As the league continues to over half a decade of operation, 233 have had their names called upon to begin careers in professional baseball.

Championship Game
On Thursday, Sept. 4, the first half champions State College Spikes hosted the second half-winning West Virginia Black Bears at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, where West Virginia won their third MLB Draft League Championship, 12-5.
The first four innings were a back-and-forth contest as the Spikes scored runs in the first, second and third innings behind doubles from T.J. Salvaggio to open the scoring and Adonis Forte for the go-ahead run in the third.
The fifth inning was where the Black Bears took off and showed no signs of slowing down with Drew Collinsโ double tying the game at four and Jace Rinehart, co-owner of the longest hit-streak in Draft League history (21 games), drove in the go-ahead run. Rinehart led the game with four hits and also accounted for four runs (two RBI, two runs).
Both teams would utilize eight pitchers during the game, highlighted by the 2025 Most Valuable Pitcher, Cameron LeJeune, leading the game with three strikeouts. In two innings of relief, LeJeune was credited with the win.
Leading off the bottom of the ninth, State Collegeโs Cole Caruso delivered the gameโs only home run on a 403-foot blast to left field. After, West Virginiaโs Wes Burton promptly retired the final three batters in order as the Black Bears added their third MLB Draft League Championship to its history.

2026 Players to Watch
Aberdeen IronBirds
Taking the field for the first time under the MLB Draft League lights, the IronBirds will feature a strong crop of arms coming from different paths through Division I, NAIA, junior college, high school and international.
Senior RHP Zach Peters out of Virginia Commonwealth University will be one of the teamโs premiere arms following his Atlantic 10 First-Team All-Conference honors. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-hander was dominant out of the Rams bullpen this year. Pitching to a 1.62 ERA with a 5-1 record, six saves and 78 strikeouts across 44 1/3 innings. Heโll run his fastball up to 96 to go along with an 83-85 mph high-whiff slider.
Redshirt Senior RHP Finnegan Wall, a Saturday starter for UC Irvine, will be another front-end starter for Aberdeen after a strong final NCAA campaign that saw a 4.03 ERA across 12 starts and 58 innings. The right-hander limits hard contact, allowing just 18 extra-base hits and five home runs over 255 batters faced.
Another collegiate arm who will draw attention is RHP Austin Puett out of NAIAโs Reinhardt University. The towering 6-foot-6, 250-pound right-hander struck out 51 over 34 innings this year while allowing just two home runs. Puett ran his fastball up to 98 mph this past spring to go along with an effective 78-80 mph breaking ball.
In the bullpen, Floridaโs Billy Barlow will join the IronBirds following the Menโs College World Series. The 22-year-old carries a power sinker in the low-90s with a high-spinning slider. At 6-foot-2, 215-pounds, the right-hander struck out 21 over 20 innings this spring for the Gatos.
While RHP Patrick Spencer didnโt pitch this spring for Mississippi State, when heโs on the 6-foot-3 right-hander will run his fastball into the upper-90s. Entering 2025, he was ranked as the No. 3 Prep Baseball JUCO Wire preseason prospect entering the 2025 season while at Pearl River, Miss.
Adding to the collegiate arms above is a youth movement with a trio of high school pitchers, two hailing from Maryland. RHP Pierce Quinn (The John Carroll School, Md.) committed to Virginia, RHP Arian Vargas (Archbishop Spalding HS, Md.) committed to Alabama and RHP Jordan Garza (Veterans Memorial HS, Texas) committed to Dallas Baptist.
On the positional side, thereโs some thump on the way to Ripken Field with a trio of college players who hit double digit home runs this year. Catcher Brian Heckelman (Towson) blasted 12 in 49 games, infielder Anthony Quigley (Northwest Florida State College) hit 17 in 47 games and outfielder Nelson Zapata (Bryant & Stratton College, Va.) had 24 over 55 games.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Returning to Niles, Ohio this summer is right-hander Tommy Szczepanski. After striking out an impressive 18 batters over 9 2/3 innings with the Scrappers, Szczepanski returned to Michigan State where he struck out 53 over 33 1/3 innings for the Spartans.
Clemsonโs leadoff man, infielder Jarren Purify, will be a spark plug on the offensive side following a junior year that saw a career-high .988 OPS over 40 games. The right-handed hitter is also a plus runner with base stealing ability; he has swiped 53 over his three-year career at Clemson. Looking to drive in Purify will be three players who belted 15+ home runs this spring; 29 for infielder James Whitman (Biola University), 17 for outfielder Tommy Harrison (Miami Ohio) and 15 for Brady Shannon (Youngstown State).
The Scrappers will have plenty of arms to choose from as an Opening Day starter with three starting pitchers who held down a weekend role at the Division I level. On Saturdays, RHP Chris Domke took the mound of Ohio State and RHP Jack Messmore for Youngstown State while Michaganโs RHP David Lally closed the weekends on Sundays.

State College Spikes
While State College and Williamsport are two of the closest teams to Canada, the Spikes will be Canadaโs team this year. The 2025 First Half Champions are set to feature six Canadians on their Opening Day roster, led by Miami commit, infielder Easton Kitura (Vauxhall Academy, AB), whoโs the No. 105 class of 2026 prospect by Prep Baseball and attended their Super 60 Showcase in February. Kitura impressed in the Draft League last summer with the Canadian Junior National team, posting a 20% Barrel rate over five games.
Another Canadian high school talent and fellow Alberta native to keep tabs on is right-handed pitcher AJ Rogers (Okotoks Academy, AB). The towering 6-foot-8 Houston commit has caught helium this spring, striking out 51 over 29.1 innings with a sub-1.00 ERA in his high school summer season. Rogers fastball has been up to 92 mph and he features a devastating changeup. Right-hander Daxton Vanderkooi out of the University of the Fraser Valley will also be the one player this year from a Canadian collegiate program.
After appearing in 22 games last summer with the Spikes, catcher Camden Ross from Western Kentucky will return to Happy Valley. The Colorado native walked (20) more than he struck out (18) last summer, leading to a .433 OBP in the first half of 2025.
The team will get a steady dose of offensive production from both their infield and outfield, starting with the dirt where three players blasted 10+ home runs this collegiate season; Alexander Mendoza Jr. (Western Oklahoma State College, Kansas State commit) with 19, Trent Turner (Western Carolina) with 12 and CJ Richmond (Purdue) with 10. In the outfield, two players produced 1.000+ OPS seasons; Tyree Reed (Jackson State) at 1.151, and Andrew Wiggins (NC State) at 1.065.
Parker Detmers from Louisville hasnโt pitched over the past 15 months due to Tommy John surgery, but heโll make up for some lost time with the Spikes this summer. Ranked No. 64 in the final class of 2023 Prep Baseball rankings, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound right-hander, when healthy, will heat it up to the upper 90s with good control and a solid mid-80s slider with spin rates nearing 3000.
Chase Meyer pitched just three innings for the West Virginia Mountaineers this spring, but heโs a power arm with a fastball that approaches triple digits. With the ability to showcase the speed during the 30-game first half schedule, the 21-year-old can be a top five round talent based on arm strength alone.
Other notable State College Spikes:

Trenton Thunder
The corner infield pairing from Houston, Carston Sabathia III and Cade Climie, return to the MLB Draft League after leading the Cougars in power. Sabathia, the eldest son of MLB Hall of Famer CC, will play for Trenton in his second consecutive summer season. During his senior year at Houston, the Alpine, N.J., native slugged .511 over 37 games which was second-best to Climieโs .683. Metrically in the Draft League last summer, Sabathia averaged 90.6 mph off the bat with a max exit velocity of 108.1 mph on a double. He also recorded 11 exit velocities over 95 mph for a hard-hit rate of 32.4%.
Climie returns to the MLB Draft League for his third season but first with the Thunder. In 2023 and 2024, he appeared in 44 games with the State College Spikes, slashing .331/.480/.408 with an OPS of .888. During the spring season at Houston, Climie was the leading bat with a team-best 1.109 OPS, 16 doubles, 10 home runs and previously mentioned slugging percentage while finishing second in batting average (.338), RBI (29) and on-base percentage (.426). The right-handed slugger recorded a max EV of 113.8 and a 97th percentile (D1) EV90 of 109.6 mph.
In his most recent season with the MLB Draft League, Climie hit safely in 14 of his 19 games and reached base in 17. The Sugar Land, Texas native ended the first half of 2024 sixth in runs with 18 and seventh in walks at 18. In 2024 the incoming Thunder outperformed his expected wOBA of .380 at .420 with a mix of power from a 90.1 mph average exit velocity (max of 109.4 mph) and a 17.1% walk rate.
After transferring from Sacred Heart in the MAAC to the SECโs South Carolina, right-hander Elijah Foster enters the 2026 season armed with a high-90s fastball thatโs been run up to 97 mph. While the last time he threw for the Gamecocks was at the end of April, the 20-year-old made 10 relief appearances this past season, striking out 12 while surrendering two runs on five hits.
Over his two prior seasons in Connecticut, Foster worked solely as a starter with 30 to the tune of a 10-4 record. Having an cumulative ERA of 4.91, he struck out 156 of the 621 batters he faced with a .216 batting average against. Along with his fastball, the Plainfield, New Jersey native possesses a tight slider and upper-80s changeup.
With a triple-digit fastball, Arkansas-Pine Bluffโs Jalen Porter had area scouts buzzing this past fall and settled into the 94-96 mph range during the spring. If the arm can heat back up with the weather, the 6-foot-4 right-hander can play a pivotal role as Trenton looks to claim their first MLB Draft League First Half Championship since 2023.

West Virginia Black Bears
The defending championsโ roster features three prospects remaining in Morgantown from West Virginia University with RHPs Carson Estridge and Luke Lyman and the Mountaineersโโ starting third baseman, Tyrus Hall.
At 6-foot-7, Estridge made a full transition to the bullpen in 2026 with 16 total appearances and his career-best 2.73 ERA. With history as a starter, the West Virginia graduate has been good for two to three innings of work with 11 of his outings generating multiple strikeouts with the most of five in 2 1/3 innings. The arsenal consists of a mid-90s fastball with a curveball, slider and changeup with swing-and-miss stuff as 19 of his 29 strikeouts during the regular season came from whiffs.
Hall wraps up the 2026 spring season with his first at the Division I level after two seasons in junior college. With West Virginia, the British Columbia native hit .272 with a .410 on-base percentage that was fourth-best in the program and a fifth-best .821 OPS. The infielder also flashed speed with 15 stolen bases.
Returning to the Black Bears is catcher Beau Sylvester following his senior season at the University of Arizona. In 40 games he had a career-best slash line of .329/.392/.477 with a .869 OPS, three home runs, 10 doubles, 15 RBI and 27 runs. During the first half of the 2025 Draft League season, Sylvester slugged .481 through 15 games with two home runs, including the fourth farthest blast of the half at 413 feet.
Going deeper than the home run, the 22-year-old backstop displayed impressive power for the Black Bears with an average exit velocity of 94.3 mph and a max of 105.5 mph. He consistently drove the ball beyond the 95-mph mark with a hard-hit rate of 42.2% and barreled the ball at a 31.1% clip.
Well-known for his elite competitiveness, Colby Allen from Southern Mississippi also brings tough-to-square stuff to the Black Bears. Heโs an elite swing arm that can fill multiple roles on a club. He also fills the zone at a 68.8% clip (93rd percentile in D1) with his fastball and adds a put away slider. The 6-foot right-hander is currently 7-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 70 innings this spring for the Golden Eagles.
From the junior college ranks, West Virginia will see North Carolina State commit RHP Dylan Mannino from John A. Logan College toe the rubber. Entering the 2026 season as Prep Baseball JUCO Wireโs preseason No. 36 prospect, the right-hander sits in the 93-95 mph range with his fastball reaching 96 mph.

Williamsport Crosscutters
The Williamsport pitching staff will feature one of the top junior college talents coming off of a historic National Championship. RHP Hudson Byrd from Johnson County Community College, ranks at No. 22 by JUCO Wire with a mid-90s fastball, changeup, cutter and slider. Bouncing back from injury, heโs impressed in his last five outings out of the bullpen with a 2.70 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and K/9 of 14.85. During the Lancersโ playoff run, 20-year-old made four appearances, three that did not see a run score, including the National Championship as he struck out four.
While his 2026 was not like his 2025 All-ACC campaign, Wake Forestโs Blake Morningstar still showed loud stuff at times. The 6-foot-4, 230-pound right-handerโs fastball averaged 93.3 mph and touched 96. His 80-81 mph downer curveball was also an effective weapon, producing a 37.3% Whiff.
In the field, Williamsport will feature an on-field family reunion with catcher Steele Burd and his younger brother, Slaide Burd. Steele, a Stetson commit out of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota, ended the spring second in the program with 12 home runs with a .604 slugging percentage. The 18-year-old Slaide, also a Stetson commit out of Hilton Head Christian Academy (N.C.), has had 10 home runs of his own while batting an impressive .630, reaching base in all 27 games and recording at least one hit in 24.
