The 2025 Minor League campaign was drawn to a close after the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp won the Triple-A National Championship on Saturday. Former Williamsport Crosscutter Matthew Etzel chipped in with one hit in the Jumbo Shrimp’s 8-7 win.
Away from the field, three alumni were highlighted in the MiLB Awards on Monday night, highlighted by Jonah Tong’s MiLB Pitching Prospect of the Year.
The MLB Postseason has also arrived, and two alumni appeared in games with playoff teams throughout the course of the year. Troy Taylor (‘21 Williamsport) appeared in eight games with the Seattle Mariners, while Luis Guerrero (‘21 Frederick) appeared in 13 games with the Boston Red Sox.
This week’s Alumni Report covers all the above, as well as a final look at the 19 MLB Draft League alumni participating in the Arizona Fall League, which gets underway Monday, Oct. 6.

Hayden Harris (ATL)
2022 Frederick Keys | ATL No. 26 Prospect (MLB Pipeline)
Harris put together one of the best 2025 campaigns among Minor League relievers, earning a spot in the MLB Futures Games back in July before being called up to the Braves in September. The former Keys left-hander posted a sub-1.00 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A this summer, which culminated in a spot on the All-MiLB Prospect First Team.
Deniel Ortiz (STL)
2024 State College Spikes | STL No. 23 Prospect (MLB Pipeline)
Ortiz impressed over 77 games in Single-A and was even more dominant to close out the summer in High-A, slashing .336/.438/.500 (.938 OPS) over 23 games. It was a strong rookie campaign from the Cardinals No. 23 prospect, and it earned him a spot on the All-MiLB Prospect Second Team.
Garrett Hawkins (SD)
2021 Trenton Thunder | SDP No. 18 Prospect (MLB Pipeline)
After sitting out the entire 2024 season, Hawkins came back with a vengeance, working his way up to Double-A with a 1.50 ERA on the season. Over 60 innings between High-A and Double-A, Hawkins struck out 80 and walked just 23 which helped make him the San Diego Padres 2025 Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
