Several MLB Draft League alumni continue to shine as the Minor League season slowly dwindles down, while multiple players are taking advantage of their September opportunities at the big league level.

Promotions

Logan VanWey (HOU)

2021 Trenton Thunder
VanWey made his return to MLB for the first time since Aug. 20 and worked a clean ninth inning for the Astros on Sept. 6. This was VanWey’s ninth appearance in the majors this year and he was optioned back to Triple-A on Sept. 9.

Colton Cosper (NYM)

2025 Williamsport Crosscutters
Cosper was the first player in this summer’s second half to have his contract purchased by a MLB organization. The former Crosscutters left-hander appeared in just three Single-A games before moving up to Triple-A on Aug. 31. Cosper had two scoreless appearances with Triple-A Syracuse before returning to Single-A St. Lucie.

Jack Carey (PIT)

2021 Trenton Thunder
Carey’s 5-0 record and 3.62 ERA over 41 appearances earned him a promotion from High-A to Double-A Altoona. Carey has made a pair of appearances for the Curve since the promotion with his debut coming Sept. 6.

Cam Clayton (MIA)

2024 Frederick Keys
Clayton’s .242/.356/.390 slash line in Single-A this year saw a late summer promotion to Double-A Pensacola on Sept. 5. Clayton made his debut with the Blue Wahoos on Sept. 7.

Zane Barnhart (BAL)

2023 Mahoning Valley Scrappers
Barnhart dominated over the past two months with a 0.40 ERA and 30 strikeouts to nine walks over 22 1/3 innings, earning a promotion to Double-A Chesapeake on Sept. 2. The former Scrapper impressed in his Double-A debut on Sept. 3, striking out the side in his one-inning appearance.

The MLB Draft League has found success in the MLB Draft through its first five seasons with 233 players drafted and another 180+ signing as free agents for more than 400 players placed in affiliated baseball.
