Monday

State College (10) vs Frederick (1): BOX SCORE - In the matinee of Monday’s slate of games, the Spikes’ offense surged late in the game to split the three-game series. Frederick’s Jake Hunter struck out seven over five innings on two hits and walks with no earned runs; however one did score on a dropped strike three in the third to tie the game at one. The game remained in a deadlock until the seventh inning when defending Hitter of the Week Jaden Collura drove in two runs with his seventh double of the summer and Conor Higgs tripled to drive in one. The momentum of Higgs late in the game didn’t stop there when in his next at bat in the eighth he went to dead center for his second home run in as many games (407 ft, 106.9-mph exit velocity) to drive in three runs that highlighted a six-run inning.

West Virginia (8) vs Williamsport (3): BOX SCORE - Two starts removed from his near-perfect game, Jason Bollman’s six-inning start featured the offensive support of all eight West Virginia runs. Jace Rinehart continued to produce offensively again with four RBI on two hits, one being a two-run double in the first inning on the first pitch he saw. Carlos Castillo and Jackson Mayo linked up for two of Williamsport’s three runs with Castillo’s two RBI being scored by Mayo.

Mahoning Valley (8) vs Trenton (7): BOX SCORE - The Scrappers won their seventh game in the last 10 in walk-off fashion with a four-run ninth. Jackson Tucker was responsible for four of the Thunder’s seven runs behind a three-hit performance with a double, two RBI and two runs. Leading to Mahoning Valley’s comeback, Dreylin Holmes launched his second half leading sixth home run of the summer in the fourth inning at 395 feet with a 107.7-mph exit velocity. In the bottom of the ninth down 7-4, the Scrappers loaded the bases with three consecutive plate appearances resulting in all four runs via a Holmes walk, Tommy Rover two-run double and the walk-off swing from Keegan Rodin who singled up the middle to drive Holmes in for the win.

Tuesday

West Virginia (15) vs Williamsport (8): BOX SCORE - The West Virginia Black Bears clinched the second half title with seven games remaining in the regular season after coming back from a 7-0 deficit. The Crosscutters put up six runs in the first with RBI hits by TJ Racherbaumer, Carlos Castillo and Joey Parliment that was then added onto in the second via a solo home run by Marcus Brodil (431 ft, 110.2-mph exit velocity) for his fourth of the summer. The Black Bears would then answer in the second, third and fourth innings with eight runs to take the lead, highlighted by Landon Frei’s second home run of the summer in the second inning (376 ft, 97.8-mph exit velocity) to drive in two runs. A Williamsport answer in the fifth of one run would lead to seven more runs by West Virginia for the final score, led by a three-hit, three-RBI performance from Jace Rinehart who extended his hit-streak to 15 games and four RBIs by Judah Morris.

Frederick (4) @ State College (2): BOX SCORE - After striking out nine in his previous start, Luke House struck out seven in six innings but wasn’t enough as the Keys would take the lead in the following innings. It was the second time in the half but fourth all summer where the Spikes’ right-hander struck out seven or more, and his third start of six innings. After State College scored their two runs, Ian Cooke and Davis Smith locked it down out of the Frederick bullpen with six combined strikeouts in four shutout-innings with RBI singles by Cam Hassert, Taj Bates, Cam Pittman and Irvin Escobar to secure the win.

Trenton (9) @ Mahoning Valley (2): BOX SCORE - The Thunder secured the series win on Tuesday with another strong start from Xavier Lovett, surrendering just one run over seven innings of work. Connor Maryniak and Cameron Yuran each chipped with two hits, as well. For the Scrappers, Hayden Moore drove in both runs with an RBI single and bases loaded walk. For the Scrappers, Johnson would go 3-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, two runs and two stolen bases.
