Thunder Strike Out Stigma with City of Angels and DEA

Thunder to hold second Addiction Awareness Night on Saturday, August 13
Addiction Awareness Night

(Trenton, NJ) - Your Trenton Thunder, presented by NJM Insurance Group, are pleased to partner with both the City of Angels and DEA for the second Addiction Awareness Night on Saturday, August 13 before the Thunder take on the West Virginia Black Bears at 6:30 PM. City of Angels is an independent organization that provides free services, including interventions, recovery support, and other programs and activities for anyone needing help with addiction.

“At City of Angels, we feel like we went from client to family, and we have grown to treasure our relationship with the Trenton Thunder," said City of Angels Chairperson Kevin Meara. "For the Thunder front office, it’s all about community, as evidenced by their second Addiction Awareness Night which addresses one of the greatest health crises of our time. This game benefits both the City of Angels and the Thunder, but best of all it benefits the community!”

The Thunder will be wearing special uniforms on the field that will then be donated back to the City of Angels Baseball Team in a special on-field ceremony after the game. Those uniforms are sponsored by Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 9, and Rosselli Griegel Lozier & Lazzaro, P.C. There will also be a Thunder Postgame Fireworks show to cap off a very meaningful evening at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.

“The Trenton Thunder's Addiction Awareness Night and our affiliation with City of Angels is part of our ongoing community awareness campaign," said Thunder President Jeff Hurley. "Unfortunately, at the same time the US is dealing with Coronavirus, overdose deaths have soared to 100,000+. One of the positives to bring away is the impact of Narcan, a potentially life saving medication designed to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes. The struggle had been about mainstreaming Narcan and the fact that it is available. That is why the Thunder has partnered with the NJ DHS in a MLB first, a Narcan give-away at a MLB-affiliated Park, all in a community awareness initiative that we at the Thunder believe can save lives!”

Mission Statement: “City of Angels was founded in 2009 to guide people with addiction to treatment and support them in their recovery. Each year, COA performs hundreds of interventions and referrals to treatment. COA will work with anyone, regardless of their insurance status, treatment history, or other details. COA also conducts community outreach through schools and local events to educate the public about addiction. Although many lives have been lost to this disease, many more individuals have entered long term recovery. COA believes that with the right tools and support, recovery is possible at any age.”

There will be resource tables and other local nonprofits around Trenton Thunder Ballpark as we all work together as a community to break the stigma and support those in recovery. For those interested, table sponsorships are still available.
