The MLB Draft League announced its schedule for the 2027 season. The seventh year of operation will feature a 78-game regular season split into two halves, with Opening Day on Wednesday, June 2 and the Championship Game on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
The first half of the 2027 season will run from June 2 to Saturday, July 10, featuring 34 games to showcase amateur prospects ahead of the MLB Draft. The second half will start Wednesday, July 14 and conclude Tuesday, Aug. 31, for 44 games with professional players making up the rosters for the six Draft League teams. The season will conclude with a winner-take-all championship game Sept. 1, hosted by the first half champions, taking on the second-half champion for the title.
After the series in 2025 with Baseball Canada’s Junior National Team and 2026 with the addition of Mexico, 2027 will again feature the MLB Draft League International Series with two national teams to be announced at a later date. The 2026 MLB Draft League champion Williamsport Crosscutters will begin their title defense at home at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field against the West Virginia Black Bears on Opening Day. The 2026 championship runner-up Aberdeen IronBirds begin the year on the road against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers with their first home game Friday, June 4, against the State College Spikes.
Since its inception in 2021, the MLB Draft League has seen more than 500 of its players sign with MLB organizations. This includes 291 selected in the annual MLB Draft and over 200 more signing as undrafted and Minor League free agents - most recently five players from the 2026 professional half whose contracts were purchased by Major League clubs. At the end of the 2026 Draft League season season, 11 alumni made their Major League debuts this year for a total of 21 in league history; more than 150 alumni have also appeared in Double-A or higher.
Following a 2025 season that consisted of a then-second best 48 MLB Draft picks, 2026 set an all-time record with 58 prospects selected with Draft League experience, with 36 of those selections having appeared during the 2026 season, the third year in a row that many players were drafted in the same year they played in the league.
