GRANVILLE, W.Va. – For more than 50 years, there have been multiple sightings throughout the great state of West Virginia of an infamous winged beast with piercing red eyes, but no credible leads have ever been reported in Monongalia County... And while each ‘sighting’ over the last five and a half decades have added to the legendary status of this creature, the actual existence of the one they call ‘Mothman’ has never been 100% proven at any time… until now!

A folk legend throughout West Virginia, ‘Mothman’ has arrived at the ballpark as the West Virginia Black Bears today unveiled all new ‘Mothman at The Mon’ specialty jerseys! The Black Bears will debut the new jerseys TONIGHT as part of the team’s West Virginia Day game at 7:05 p.m. against the Williamsport Crosscutters.

Tickets for tonight’s game are on sale at WestVirginiaBlackBears.com and at the Monongalia County Ballpark Box Office. Tonight’s game will also feature postgame fireworks.

West Virginia’s most famous cryptid, Mothman was first reported in Mason County by The Point Pleasant Register on November 16, 1966. Described as a “man with wings” with “eyes…which glowed red,” Mothman has grown in popularity in recent years, reaching beyond the borders of the Mountain State and into the mainstream media.

The front of the ‘Mothman at the Mon’ jersey depicts the looming image of Mothman flying overhead of Monongalia County Ballpark while most fans are enjoying a great Black Bears game, unaware of the presence of the winged creature. The only color added to the black and white jersey is piercing red of Mothman's glowing eyes. The same red is used for the 'Black Bears' script across the front and for the numbers on the back. The Black Bears popular state outline logo is also colored black and red and placed on the left sleeve of the jersey!

Along with West Virginia Day, the Black Bears will wear the new alternate jerseys for Tuesday home games throughout July and August.

Now fans pre-order their own ‘Mothman at The Mon’ replica jerseys and t-shirts at WestVirginiaBlackBears.com or the next time they visit The Mon.
