Keys Score 11 to Grab Series from Mahoning Valley

Frederick, MD– The Frederick Keys (11-9) defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (7-15) on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 11-2 from Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

A five-run 3rd inning and a four-run 5th inning for Frederick propelled the Keys to their third consecutive series win.

A two-run double by Amir Wright (Ball State), an RBI single by Jake Plastiak (Kentucky) and a two-run single by Alex Baeza (Utah) gave the Keys an early 5-0 lead after the 3rd.

In the 5th, a two-run double by Trevor Johnson (McPherson College), an RBI single by Matt Oldham (NC State) and a wild pitch that brought home Oldham from third extended the Keys lead to 9-2 after the 5th.

In the 8th, Baeza launched his sixth home run of the summer to straightaway center field; his fourth home run of the three-game series.

On offense, Baeza led the way with three RBI while Calvin Rucker (Savannah State) collected a game-high three hits. All nine hitters in the starting lineup collected hits and eight of the nine scored at least a run in the win.

On the mound, starting right-hander Allan Saathoff (Erskine College) earned his third win of the summer after pitching 5.0 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts.

The bullpen of Sergio Ramirez (UC Riverside), Matt Voelker (Baylor), Conner Woods (UNLV) and Ryan Langford (Florida Southern College) combined for 4.0 shutout innings of relief and six strikeouts.

The Keys return on Tuesday, August 16 at West Virginia for a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm from Monongalia County Ballpark.
