In a rain shortened contest on Sunday afternoon, the Scrappers secured the series win over the West Virginia Black Bears with a 9-2 win in five full innings.

Mahoning Valley would plate a pair of runs in the first inning on a two run single from Bryce Hubbard to take a 2-0 lead. It was the fourth consecutive game the Scrappers plated at least one run in the opening frame.

They got two more in the second on a two run triple by Edison Polanco, which made the score 4-0.

Mahoning Valley broke the game open in the third, plating four more runs in the inning. Jack Cannon plated the first two runs with a double into the left field corner. Tommy Harrison followed that up with his second double of the game to score Cannon. Jarren Purify ended the inning with an RBI single for his ninth RBI of the season.

As a team the Scrappers racked up seven extra base hits, six of them being doubles.

Ciaran Caughey got the start, and delivered four innings of one run ball, allowing the only run to score on a solo home run in the fourth by Black Bears DH Derrick Tarpley. He struck out four in the game and got the win in the shortened contest.

The game was suspended with the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the sixth. West Virginia had already plated a run in the inning to make the score 9-2, but incoming thunderstorms forced the game to a halt, and shortly after the delay it was made a final.

Mahoning Valley has the day off tomorrow, they return to action in Williamsport on Tuesday against the Crosscutters.
