The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are proud to offer unique, interactive education programs that bring learning to life both in and out of the classroom. From exploring science and weather at Weather Education Day, to hitting reading goals through the Scrappy's Reading Club, to connecting core subjects with baseball at the YSU Day Game, each program is designed to make education engaging and fun. These experiences combine classroom lessons with real-world excitement at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood where learning meets the love of the game!

Scrappy's Reading Club

📚 Step Up to the Plate with the Scrappy's Reading Club!

Scrappy's Reading Club, a fun and engaging way to encourage students to read while earning rewards they’ll love! This program runs through March. Scrappy's Reading Club for 2027 will open registration after the 2026 season.

Here’s how it works:
📖 Students in Pre-K through 8th grade read books to reach set goals. Each grade has separate goals.
⚾ When they complete the challenge, they’ll earn free tickets to a Scrappers home game this summer! 🎟 Parents will also receive access to discounted tickets, making it a perfect family outing to celebrate reading success.

The Scrappers Reading Club helps build lifelong reading habits while connecting learning to real-life fun at the ballpark. Plus, your school will receive all the materials needed to get started making participation easy and exciting for both teachers, parents and students!

Weather Education Day | May 12

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers invite you and your students to Weather Education Day at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood! This fun and educational field trip combines baseball and science for a one-of-a-kind learning experience. This event is $8 per person and includes lunch provided by the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

During the event, students will explore:
⚾ How weather affects the game – including wind, temperature, and ball trajectory
🌦 Understanding dew point and general weather patterns
☀️ Sun safety and the importance of protection outdoors
🌪 Severe weather preparedness – what to do when storms strike
🧪 Hands-on experiments and take-home projects to reinforce classroom lessons

Our Weather Education Day is a great way to make STEM learning come alive!

YSU School Day Game | May 8

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers invite your school to join us for a special YSU School Day Game on Friday, May 8 at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood! Gates open at 9:30am with first pitch at 11:00am. Teachers, students and chaperones can enjoy the day for just $8 per person and includes lunch.

This event isn’t just about baseball — it’s about bringing classroom learning to life in a fun, interactive way. Each attending class will receive a curriculum packet designed to integrate baseball into key subjects, including:
🗺 Geography : exploring where MLB Draft League teams play and how location affects the game
📐 Math : calculating stats, distances, and player averages
🔬 Science : learning about force, motion, and weather’s impact on the field
📚 Reading & Writing : baseball-themed comprehension and creative activities

It’s the perfect blend of education and excitement giving students a memorable field trip while reinforcing core academic skills.
