
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The rains brought an end to tonight’s game after five innings, as the Cutters fall 6-2 to West Virginia. The loss completes a sweep for the Black Bears and runs the Cutters losing streak to four-straight.
The Cutters defense struggled as a pair of Rayth Petersen errors in the 2nd inning helped the Black Bears take a 3-1 lead. Williamsport ended the night with three errors all together.
A.J. Campbell had a solid start, striking out five of the first seven batters he faced. Campbell would not be able to work out of the 5th, allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. The right-hander finished with six strikeouts in the loss.
Rayth Petersen connected on his second home run of the season, a 370-foot shot to left in the bottom of the 4th inning. Petersen finished the night 1-for-3, scoring both of the Cutters runs.
Petersen had a chance to draw the Cutters in closer, stepping to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the 5th. The Cutters shortstop popped out to short. Max Mandler followed with a strikeout to end the inning, and failing to produce a run.
The Crosscutters collected three extra-base hits in the loss. Petersen’s homer was joined by doubles from Max Mandler and Vantrel Reed.
Williamsport finished the night 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, finishing the series 1-for-26 with runners in scoring position.
Tonight’s game started in a weather delay, lasting one hour and four minutes.
Williamsport heads to State College for a two-game, weekend series. The Cutters will be back home on Tuesday, July 29th to host the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
