Williamsport, Pa. – Kyle Schupmann’s go-ahead home run was enough to back Will Bartkowski, as the Cutters run their win streak to six-straight with a 2-1 victory over Mahoning Valley.
Entering in the top of the 6th of a tie game, Will Bartkowski delivered his best outing of the season. The side arm slinging right hander faced the minimum over four shutout innings of relief, earning his first win of the season.
Bartkowski struck out four batters, induced four ground ball outs and generated a pair of infield pop ups, as he kept the Scrappers offense off balanced in the game’s final stages.
While Bartkowski was keeping the Scrappers bats at bay, the Crosscutters were able to finally get the go-ahead run across in the 7th inning.
After David Lally struck out the first two batters of the inning, Kyle Schupmann sent a cutter over the left field wall, traveling an estimated feet into the Scrappers bullpen.
It was Schupmann’s first home run of the summer and the Cutters first home run at Journey Bank Park of the season. The team’s first five home runs of the season had all been on the road.
Bartkowski was able to hold that 2-1 lead, running the Crosscutters current win streak to six-straight games.
Maddix Dalena got the scoring started in the 5th inning, ripping a single through the left side of the infield, scoring Schupmann to tie the game at 1-1. For Dalena, it was his sixth RBI of the season.
Alex Walsh made his Crosscutters debut, working three innings in a start. Walsh struck out four batters and allowed one run on four hits.
Williamsport looks to make it back-to-back series sweeps, as they face the Scrappers Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
