
Williamsport, Pa. – Plating eight runs on a dozen his, the Crosscutters ran their win streak to seven-straight as they bested Mahoning Valley, 8-1.
Brett Antolck made his second start of the season, delivering four shutout innings against the Scrappers. The East Carolina product allowed one hit and struck out five in the no decision.
Williamsport back Antolick’s efforts, plating the games first runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Geroge Malone opened the frame with a double to deep right-center and was plated by the following batter, Kyle Schupmann, who doubled to left, giving the Cutter a 1-0 lead.
Schupmann advanced on a throwing error, putting him at 3rd for Maddix Dalena. Dalena flew out to deep right, allowing Schupmann to tag and score to make it 2-0.
The Crosscutters added on in the bottom of the 4th inning as it was Schupmann’s turn to plate a run with a sacrifice fly, scoring Owen Price to advance the Williamsport lead to 3-0.
Jackson Nash entered in the top of the 5th, allowing a wall-ball double to Tommy Harrison and a single to Tristan Strickland to open the outing. Edison Polanco plated Harrison, cutting the Scrappers deficit to 3-1.
That would be all the runs the Scrappers would scrape together, as Nash settled in to work four innings of relief, earning his second win of the season. The right-hander out of Longwood University struck out four on the outing.
Williamsport’s offense backed their pitcher, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th, both with two outs.
Owen Prince plated Ben Tryon with a single, making it 4-1 Williamsport and putting Nick Barone at 3rd. A few pitches later, the Cutters pulled of a double steal, seeing Barone take the plate to give the Cutters a 5-1 advantage.
The Crosscutters added another three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, again using a sacrifice fly to plate a run as Tryon scored Schupmann to make it 6-1.
Chris Stanfield gave the final blow, ripping a two-out, two-run single off the diving glove of short stop Edison Polanco. Addison Smith and Nick Barone each scored, as the Cutters took a 8-1 lead.
Myles Meyer took over in the top of the 9th inning, and had to work through command issues to close out the win. Meyer did not allow a run, but allowed walk and hit a batter in the appearance.
The Crosscutters try to extend their win-streak tomorrow evening in Aberdeen as they start a weekend set with the Ironbirds. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
Cutters Carvings - Kyle Schupmann extended his on-base streak to 10-straight games and extended his hit streak to nine-straight games with a single to lead off the bottom of the first… Schupmann finished the night 3-for-3, his first three-hit game of the season… Owen Prince finished the night 3-for-4, his first three-hit game of the season… Prince entered with two hits through his first six games played… The Crosscutters swiped eight more bases in the win as they have now stolen 65 bases through their first 13 games…
