
Williamsport, Pa. – Chris Guillory delivered five shutout frames and Addison Smith drove in four runs as Williamsport used a 9-2 win to complete their three-game sweep of Mexico.
Guillory, 18, made his first start of the season and gave the Cutters five shutout innings to set the tone early against Mexico. The Houston commit featured a low-90’s fastball mixed with a change up and curve to strike out five, allowing just two hits and a walk.
With his effort, Guillory was the only Crosscutters starting pitcher to go five innings on the weekend, earning his first win of the season to improve to 1-0.
Addison Smith and the Crosscutters offense backed the start, getting the scoring started in the bottom of the 3rd inning as Smith ripped a two-run single through the right side of the infield, plating KJ White and Nate McHugh to make it 2-0.
Slaide Burd capped the scoring in the 3rd, crossing on a passed ball with two outs in the frame to make it 3-0.
Williamsport broke the game open in the 4th inning, as Chris Stanfield led off by getting hit by a pitch, stealing 2nd and taking 3rd on a passed ball. Stanfield scored on a throwing error on a ball put in play by Chance Jennings to make it 4-0. Jenning ended up on 3rd on the play.
Nate McHugh drove in Jennings with a RBI ground out, extending the Williamsport lead to 5-0.
Smith got into the mix again, driving in the final two runs of the frame with a two-run, two-out double to left. Burd and Kyle Schupmann scored on the play, upping the Cutters lead to 7-0.
McHugh added to his performance in the bottom of the 5th inning, driving an offering deep to right-center, one-hopping the wall. McHugh raced into third with an RBI triple scoring Stanfield, giving the Cutters a 8-0 lead.
Later in the inning, McHugh scored on a wild pitch, capping the scoring for the Crosscutters and giving them their 9-0 lead.
Jaden Noot took over in the 6th inning, out of the Williamsport bullpen, going three innings. Noot allowed two runs on five hits and a walk. The runs were the first given up by the Cutters bullpen in the series. The LSU product struck out two in the outing.
Jacob Limas closed out the game, working around a lead off walk in the top of the 9th.
Winner’s of their last four games, the Crosscutters will welcome in the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Tuesday night, opening a three-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
