
Williamsport, Pa. – For the second-straight night, the Crosscutters bullpen provided five plus scoreless innings of relief in a victory over Mexico.
Team Mexico jumped out to an early lead for the second-straight night as center fielder, Leonardo Delgado belted a 410-foot lead off home run off Cutters starter Luke Meyers, make it a 1-0 lead.
Williamsport answered in the bottom of the first with a run of their own, as Kyle Schupmann scored on a Nick Barone double play, tying the game at 1-1.
Meyers would surrender two more runs in his start, allowing three runs on six hits. The right-hander out of Washington State struck out three and walked one in his 3.2 innings of work.
Colton Kennedy entered with two on and two out in the top of the 4th, walking the first batter he faced to load the bases. Kennedy would get Delgado to ground out to end the threat and leave the Cutters deficit at 3-1.
Backing the effort, Williamsport struck for three runs in the bottom of the 4th inning against Mexico reliever Mario Caballero. Ben Tryon started the scoring with a double to right, scoring Maddix Dalena to make it 3-2.
Addison Smith knotted the game with a RBI ground out chasing home Nick Barone, making it 3-3. Tryon would come in to score the go-ahead run on an Amari Allen force out, giving the Cutters their first lead of the night at 4-3.
That would be enough for the Cutters bullpen as Kennedy went the next two frames, striking out five batters. The right-hander, who featured a 96 MPH fastball, earned the win with his efforts. Improving his record to 3-0.
Steele Burd provided a clutch two-run, two-out single to left-center, chasing home KJ White and Kelley Robertson to make it 6-3. It was the first two RBI of the season for Burd.
Brendan Sweeney made his Cutters debut, sporting a 95MPH heater, working two shutout frames of relief. Sweeney struck out two and allowed one hit.
Owen Prince scored the final run for Williamsport, crossing on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th, to extend the Cutters lead to 7-3.
Myles Meyer closed out the win, striking out three of the four batters he faced.
Williamsport looks for their first series sweep of the season, with first pitch scheduled for 4:05pm against Mexico.
