MLB Draft League (10) vs Cape Cod Baseball League (6): BOX SCORE - At Citi Field, the MLB Draft League and Cape Cod Baseball League competed in an exhibition in front of Major League scouts. Trailing 3-0 after a three-run homer in the fourth, Harrison Didawick (State College) put the Draft League within one on a two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning. A groundout from Mahoning Valleyโ€™s Khi Holiday would tie the game at three. A Cape sac fly would make it a 4-3 game in the sixth but singles from Holiday and Frederickโ€™s Dawson Willis made it 5-4 in favor of the Draft League, not giving up the lead for the rest of the game. Tuesday

West Virginia (3) vs Frederick (1): BOX SCORE - Opening the week, the West Virginia Black Bears threw six no-hit innings until Eddie Hacopian led off the seventh for Frederick with a solo home run (355 ft, 95.6-mph exit velocity) for the Keysโ€™ only hit of the game. Scott Rienguetteโ€™s first start and sixth game lasted for three perfect innings where he struck out five batters, improving his strong season with 14 strikeouts in 11.2 total innings with a 0.69 WHIP. Tyler Cerny was responsible for two of the Black Bearsโ€™ three runs in a two-for-three effort with two doubles, a stolen base, an RBI and a run that both came in the fifth.

Trenton (21) @ Williamsport (5): BOX SCORE - The Thunder became the first team since June 15, 2024 to score 20+ runs in a game to move only two games behind the first place Crosscutters. JuJu Stevensโ€™ five hits joined the top spot for most in a game in Draft League history while reaching base a total seven times (5-for-5, two doubles, four RBI, three runs, two walks). The league leader in doubles, Stevensโ€™ first came in the opening frame with a line drive to center at 408 feet with a 101-mph exit velocity to drive in two runs with his second coming in the ninth to drive in the 21st run of the game with an exit velocity of 102.3 mph. Four triples were recorded in the game with Williamsportโ€™s Matt Ilgenfritz (2-for-5, RBI, R) owning two of them and Trentonโ€™s Michael Whooley (2-for-5, two RBI, five runs) and John Schroeder (2-for-6, three RBI, two runs) with one. Chris Dudley made his second start for the Thunder with eight strikeouts over four innings, one of the two hits he allowed was the gameโ€™s only home run that came off the bat of Boston Smith (410 ft, 102.7 mph exit velocity) for his MLB Draft League leading third of the year and second in as many league games.

State College (7) vs Mahoning Valley (6): BOX SCORE - RBI Triple opened up the game by the Scrappersโ€™ Daniel Stewart and Michal Sindelka put the road team out to an early 2-0 lead with State Collegeโ€™s Ryan Rivera bringing the spikes within one with a triple of his own. Before State College took the lead in the sixth, Nick Falter allowed only one run through five with four strikeouts. Upon exiting, the Spikes tallied five runs with singles by Hugh Pinkney (1-for-3, RBI, R), Dan Tauken (1-for-2, RBI, R), Camden Ross (1-for-4, two RBI, R) and Harrison Didawick (2-for-5, RBI, R). At the top of the order, Javon Hernandez was all over the scorebook and the field with a 4-for-4 day, doubling and scoring in the third as well as playing shortstop, centerfield and third base.

Wednesday

West Virginia (4*) vs Frederick (4) Sudden Death Extra Inning: BOX SCORE - The Black Bears and Keys nearly matched each other in the box score as the home team West Virginia moved half a game behind first place. Truitt Madonna made consistent loud contact for the Keys with a third-inning solo home run, the longest across the league this season at 418 feet with a 107.8-mph exit velocity. The UCLA commit catcher also fired a 106.8-mph single off the wall in his next at bat in the fifth. The gameโ€™s starters dueled through five innings with West Virginiaโ€™s Jorge DeCardenas and Frederickโ€™s Matthew Becker each striking out six, both striking out the side in the second. With the Black Bears trailing by one heading into the ninth, Judah Morris led off with his second home run of the year to tie at four to dead center at 412 feet with a 105 mph exit velocity. In the sudden death extra inning, West Virginia stepped up to the plate as Tyler Pettorini delivered the walk-off hit on a groundball to left that scored the run from second.

Trenton (6) @ Williamsport (2): BOX SCORE - Jude Abbadessa put together his third outing where he struck out six and one run scored, this game being his only earned run of the three. Responsible for four runs the night before, Harry Genth added some pop as the leadoff hitter with a home run (394 ft, 101.1 mph exit velocity) and three RBIs. At the end of the two-game series, the Haveford product finished 5-for-9 with three RBI, five runs, a homer, double, three walks and two stolen bases. Following Genth in the lineup, Aaron Whitley accounted for two runs with two hits and three stolen bases, putting him two away from the first half record of 25 set by Blaze Brothers (West Virginia โ€˜22), Matthew Etzel (Williamsport โ€˜22) and Colton Becker (Trenton โ€˜24).

State College (6) vs Mahoning Valley (3): BOX SCORE - In four innings of relief, Brett Dunham and Carter Holjes combined for eight of the Spikesโ€™ 12 strikeouts with Harrison Didawick delivering the tying run in the third and game-winning run in the fifth. Along with Didawick, Ryan Rivera, Landen Johnson and Dan Tauken each recorded a multi-hit game for the Spikes. For the Scrappers, only one of their three runs came off of a hit as Max Johnson took the lead in the fourth with an RBI single for a 3-2 lead. Out of the three Mahoning Valley pitchers, Danny Heintz was the only to not surrender a run with three strikeouts in two innings and one hit.

Thursday

State College (5) vs Williamsport (2): BOX SCORE - The first MLB Draft League start by LSUโ€™s Jacob Mayers proved to be successful as the righty struck out seven in four innings with only one run allowed. Taking a 2-0 lead in the first after a single by Ryan Rivera to score both runs, the Spikes would hold onto it for the rest of the game. Credited with the win, Caden Wooster threw two no-hit innings with two strikeouts for State College. On the other side for Williamsport, Merit Jones made his first appearance since being named Pitcher of the week with three innings and three strikeouts with one hit, run and walk. For the Crosscutters, Matt Ilgenfritzโ€™s swings delivered both runs as he grounded into a double play in the second to score Boston Smith and a double in the seventh to score Armani Newton from first.

Trenton (15) @ Frederick (10): BOX SCORE - The offensive heavy game saw the Keys score their 10 runs with five-run innings in the first and third, with the Thunder scoring all 15 starting in the fourth. In similar fashion to Frederick, having two five-run innings in the fourth and ninth to take the lead. In the first inning, Truitt Madonna continued to drive the ball on a run-scoring single with an exit velocity of 102.6 mph. The Keysโ€™ catcher would also double in the second at 106.1 mph for his third exit velocity over 106 in the past two games. In the third, Frederickโ€™s lineup cycled with an Anthony Diaz triple, Caden Merritt double, Trey Lipsey single and Sam Parker capping off the inning with a three-run homer (386 ft, 105.1-mph exit velocity) for his second of the year. JuJu Stevens drove in Trentonโ€™s first run of the game with a single to left, later scoring in the inning on a three-run single by Evin Sullivan. Stevens would drive in two more runs on a sac fly that scored Rowan Masse from third and Aaron Whitley would score from second base. Michael Whooley accounted for three Thunder runs, the first being one of Sullivanโ€™s driven in runs, a solo home run to lead off the seventh (381 ft, 97.9 mph exit velocity), being the go-ahead run in the ninth on a Jakob Poturnak sac fly.

Mahoning Valley (7) @ West Virginia (5): BOX SCORE - Six runs in the second propelled the Scrappers in taking the victory and moving back to .500 at 11-11. Michal Sindelka recorded his fourth hit in July with a two-run double in the second at an exit velocity of 102 mph. Mahoning Valley would get their last surge of offense in the third on Trey Fendersonโ€™s first home run of the year that hugged the left field line at 358 feet. Once facing West Virginiaโ€™s bullpen, the Scrappers offense quieted down with only two hits against Will Rogers (3 IP, 5 K) and no hits against Aiden Moffett (2 IP, 3 K) and Cannon Pickell (1 IP, 2 K), who made his first Draft League appearance since June 10. The Black Bears looked to rally back in the third and fourth on a two-run, 105-mph double by Connor Hicks and singles by Tyler Cerny and Tyler Pettorini, however, Mahoning Valleyโ€™s bullpen saw similar results with three strikeout efforts by Brady Fuller and Noah Czajkowski that lead to Tommy Szczepanski two strikeout two for the save.

Friday

State College (19) @ Williamsport (4): BOX SCORE - On the back of a stellar Luke House start, the Spikes offense exploded to wrap up their two-game set outscoring the Crosscutters, 24-6. In six innings, House followed up his last outing (5.1 IP, 5 K, 1 R) with six innings of one-run ball, striking out eight to become the fifth pitcher this year to do so. Back-to-back doubles from Javon Hernandez (3-for-4, 2B, RBI, 4 R, 2 SB, 2 BB) and Harrison Didawick (2-for-6, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) to lead off the game got the Spikes going as they would score eight in the first three innings before putting up seven in the seventh. Ten out of 11 Spikes batters recorded a hit with Hugh Pinkney and Merik Carter each recording three plus a double. For Williamsport, the only offensive spark that came through would be a three-run home run by Ryan Kennell (400 ft, 101.3-mph exit velocity) for his first of the year in the bottom of the ninth.

Trenton (5) vs Frederick (4): BOX SCORE - Similar to the night before, the finish between the Thunder and Keys featured a dramatic ninth inning before Danny Corona walked it off. Leading off the game, Trey Lipsey took the second pitch deep to right for his second home run of the season (391 ft, 98.6-mph exit velocity) before Trentonโ€™s Gavin King ended the inning with three strikeouts and a walk. While the home run was Lipseyโ€™s only hit of the game, the Ohio State product would come around to score again with three walks and a stolen base. While Lipsey leads the Keys in stolen bases, Aaron Whitley cemented himself in MLB Draft League history as the Trenton outfielder tied and broke the first-half record for stolen bases with his 25th and 26th in the third inning, ending the night with a third for 27. Whitleyโ€™s record-breaking stolen base in the third would be Trentonโ€™s first run of the game as an error trying to throw him out would lead to the Richmond graduate to score easily. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, a walk would give the Thunder a 2-1 lead that held until the ninth when a wild pitch, ground out and Walter Urbon single gave Frederick a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. A leadoff double and single would lead to Aaron Graeberโ€™s RBI single (102.9-mph exit velocity) followed by a walk to load the bases for Danny Corona to single into right to deliver the walk-off in the second pitch of the at bat, capping off a 3-for-5 line with all hits being singles.

Mahoning Valley (8) vs West Virginia (4): BOX SCORE - The offensive trio of Chase Heath, Ty Powell and Seth Farni each delivered two RBIs for the Scrappers who took the lead in the first inning and held throughout the entire game to win both games against West Virginia. Heathโ€™s 10th and 11th RBI came on separate occasions with a first-inning single and an eighth-inning ground out. After his first hit and a stolen base to put runners on second and third, Powell would double to left for his share of runs to make the score 3-0 at the time. Farni would join the two-RBI club in the seventh with his fourth double of the season in the seventh to extend the Scrappers lead to 7-2. West Virginia had begun to rally in the ninth on an error, single, run-scoring error and single to make it an 8-4 game with two outs until JJ Tylicki ended the game with a groundout to first.

Saturday

State College (3*) @ Trenton (3) Sudden Death Extra Inning: BOX SCORE - In the battle for first place, State College took a half-game lead after walking it off in the sudden death extra inning. In his second game with the MLB Draft League, Tommy Case showed signs of improvement and comfort with three no-hit innings and six strikeouts while only walking one. Once Case left the game, the Spikes found some offense with an RBI double by Landen Johnson in the fourth and a groundout plus executed first and third steal in the seventh where Javon Hernandez deked out the Trenton catcher to score the game tying run. The Spikes were able to come away from the night on top after loading the bases and the game-winning run was walked in, making all four sudden death extra inning games being won by the offensive team.

West Virginia (12) @ Williamsport (1): BOX SCORE - The Black Bears produced their fourth game of the year of 10+ runs behind a Sam Tookoian start and a power showcase from Beau Sylvester and Roman Jackson. Getting out to an early lead, the first inning featured a Nico Newhan RBI single and two at bats later, Sylvester slugged his second home run in as many games (413 ft, 103.6-mph exit velocity) to bring in three. Tookoian, out of Ole Miss, entered the night going three games (5 IP) without surrendering a hit and started in similar fashion through 2.1 innings until giving up his first single to Amman Dewberry. The third inning would be the only one where the Black Bearsโ€™ starter allowed more than the minimum three batters while he struck out five. For Jackson, out of the nine-spot West Virginiaโ€™s left fielder recorded three doubles to be the first player this season to do so for the second most in an MLB Draft League game with eight others since 2022.

Frederick (5) @ Mahoning Valley (3): BOX SCORE - Using two pitchers, the Keys were able to secure their 10th win of the season after breaking a 3-3 tie on one swing in the eighth. Putting together a quality start, Chieh-Han Huang went six innings and struck out seven as he was responsible for the Scrappers three runs. In long-relief, Dax Dathe struck out six in three innings as he allowed only three base runners, one per inning, on a hit, walk and hit by pitch. Down 2-1 in the sixth, Anthony Diaz and Trey Lipsey would both double to the right side of the field for RBIs to give the Keys their first lead at 3-2. After a Max Johnson single to tie the game at three, three straight walks would result in Dawson Willis to drive in the go-ahead runs for Frederick on a two-run double for his sixth of the year.

Sunday

State College (18) @ Trenton (0): BOX SCORE - The Spikes completed the first full-week sweep of the year with their shutout road victory that saw 12 runs scored in the eighth. Bobby Olsenโ€™s fourth start went five innings as he struck out five with two hits and a walk. 12 of the Spikesโ€™ 13 batters in the game recorded RBI with four having more than one. Leading the group was Landen Johnson with four, the first two came on an RBI single in the eighth and another on a hit by pitch in his second plate appearance of the inning, finalizing in the ninth with a sacrifice fly. Overall, the 18 runs came off of seven hits as State College walked 20 times and were hit by pitches seven.

Mahoning Valley (4) vs Frederick (3): BOX SCORE - The Scrappers moved above .500 with a walk-off double by former Player of the Week, Daniel Stewart with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Garrett Peters and Jack Bowery were tasked with the start for their respective clubs, each striking out six. Peters would work six innings with an earned run on three hits for Mahoning Valley and Jack Bowery fired four shutout innings on two hits for Frederick. The first run to score off of a hit came in the fifth inning as Max Hartman deposited his first home run of the year (341 ft, 97.1-mph exit velocity) to right field for a 2-1 Scrappers lead that became 3-1 after a forceout in the eighth. Jose Silva would then deliver a two-out ground-rule double to tie the game at three for the Keys before, in a similar scenario, Stewart would go to the left center gap to drive in Ben Watson all the way from first base to end the week 13-12 on the season.

West Virginia (6) @ Williamsport (0): BOX SCORE - Pitching was in control for the first six innings with a combined five hits and 14 strikeouts before the Black Bearsโ€™ offense woke up in the seventh. Back-to-back extra-base hits from Nico Newhan and Sam Miller followed by an Ethan Hott double and Ben Zeigler-Namoa single scored four for West Virginia with two more scoring in the eight on Ben Lumsden and Beau Sylvester singles. On the Crosscuttersโ€™ side, Brad Rudis struck out five in three innings to start with three innings by Josh Leerssen to follow with three of his own and four strikeouts.
