Williamsport, Pa. – Evan Grimes struck out seven batters, setting the tone for the Cutters 12-2 win over the Trenton Thunder.
Making his third start of the season, Grimes went a season-high five innings and tied a season-high with seven strikeouts. The lone blemish for the south-paw came via a lead off home run by Cy Turner in the 5th inning.
Williamsport got the bats going early yet again to back their starter, plating five runs in the Bottom of the 2nd inning.
Matthew Williams earned his first RBI, scoring James McCoy to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead. On the same play, Ehi Okojie took home on an errant throw to 1st base to make it 2-0.
Nick Romano plated the third run of the inning, getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to collect his first RBI of the season.
Brodey Acers capped the scoring with a two-out, two-run double down the left field line, chasing in Sam DeCarlo and Chris Stanfield to make it 5-0 and give Acres his 24th RBI on his 5th double.
Williams added to his night in the Bottom of the 3rd inning, following a triple from Owen Prince with a double to deep right center. Owens scored to make it 6-0 on the second RBI for Williams.
The Cutters added three more in the Bottom of the 4th inning. After Trenton intentionally walked James McCoy to load the bases, Ehi Okojie ripped a two-run double to left, scoring Nick Romano and Brodey Acres to give Williamsport a 8-0 advantage on Okojie’s first RBIs of the year.
Owen Prince plated the final run of the frame with a RBI ground to score James McCoy to give the Cutters a 9-0 lead.
Davin Pollard entered in the 6th for Williamsport and gave the Cutters three solid innings of relief. Pollard allowed on run on a solo home run to lead off the 8th as the right-hander finished the night with one walk allowed and three strikeouts.
Williamsport used a three-run sixth to put a bow on their offensive display. With two outs, Jake Zitella ripped an RBI single to center to score Ehi Okojie to make it 10-1.
Sam DeCarlo followed with a two-run single, chasing in Owen Prince and Matthew Williams to up the advantage to 12-1.
James McCoy pitched a scoreless 9th inning for Williamsport, helping to save the bullpen in this opening stretch of the 2nd half, closing out the Cutters 12-2 win over Trenton.
The Crosscutters look to make it two in a row against the Trenton Thunder tomorrow night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field. First pitch scheduled for 6:35p.m.
