Williamsport, Pa. - Williamsport suffered their first shutout loss of the season, falling 6-0 to the West Virginia Black Bears on Tuesday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Cutters hitters were held to just two hits and a walk, leaving all three runners in scoring position. Owen Prince was the lone Cutters batter to reach multiple times, drawing a walk and doubling to finish 1-for-3. Jack Kail collected the other hit, a single in the 2nd inning.
David Case allowed three runs on 10 hits over six innings for the Crosscutters. Case suffered the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season. Davin Pollard allowed a run in two innings of work, allowing one hits, three walks and striking out five. Luc Lavigueur surrendered two runs on four hits and a walk in an inning of relief.
West Virginia received a solid start from Tyler Kaltreider, who shutout the Cutters through the first seven innings, tallying eight strikeouts. Andrew Luczak and Dawson Hall combined to work the final two innings of scoreless relief, striking out two while allowing just one base runner.
Black Bear pitching ran a streak of 17-straight batters retired from the bottom of the 3rd inning until the bottom of the 9th inning.
Williamsport looks to take the second game of the series Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
