Niles, Ohio - Unable to recreate the offensive magic from the prior night, the Williamsport Crosscutters were held to just five hits in a 7-2 loss to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Saturday night at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood.
Chris Stanfield, James McCoy, Matthew Williams, Jack Kail and Joey DeMucci were the five Cutters to record a hit with the only extra base hit being a double from Kail. Stanfield and McCoy accounted for the two runs while Kail and Jake Zitella recorded an RBI each.
Kenney Fabian took the loss, falling to 1-3 on the season, after 3.1 innings of work allowing all seven Scrappers runs on seven hits with four walks and no strikeouts.
Matthew Mariano entered to stop the bleeding, going 2.2 innings allowing just one hit on one walk and two strikeouts.
Preston Drebes went the final 2 innings giving up no hits and walking two while striking out one.
Williamsport looks to bounce back with a victory and take the three-game series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Sunday afternoon. First pitch from 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood is set for 2:05 p.m. with the Cutters sending LHP David Case (1-2, 4.50 ERA) to the mound against Scrappers LHP Alexander Llinas (1-2, 7.59 ERA).
