UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Jackson Mayo tossed five shutout innings for the win as the State College Spikes defeated the Trenton Thunder, 3-0, in a game called due to inclement weather in the sixth inning on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
Due to the weather, the scheduled post-game FIREWORKS show presented by Penn Highlands Healthcare was postponed to Sunday, August 30. Although Saturday night’s game was an official game with no rain checks, in light of the postponement of FIREWORKS, a ticket for Saturday’s game is good for a ticket of equal or lesser value, based on availability, to any of the three remaining home games this season, which will all now feature post-game FIREWORKS.
Exchanges can be made at the Spikes Ticket Office at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park during normal business hours. The Ticket Office is open from 10 a.m. to the end of the game on Monday through Friday game days, 12 p.m. to the end of the game on Saturday and Sunday game days, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday on non-game days.

In game action, Mayo (4-2) held the Thunder (17-19 2nd Half) to just two hits and two walks over five innings of work while striking out four batters. The left-hander out of the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) made his longest outing of the season, and earned the win as a Spikes (20-17 2nd Half) starter for the first time.
The win kept the Spikes within 2 ½ games of the Aberdeen IronBirds for the MLB Draft League second-half crown with nine games remaining in the regular season.
Ethan Swidler collected two hits, with his first a two-out single in the second to bring in the game’s first run. Nyan Hayes and Camden Ross added back-to-back two-out, RBI singles of their own in the fourth to bolster the State College lead.
John Hacker (0-1) took the loss in his Trenton debut after allowing one run on two hits and two walks over two innings in an opener role. Hacker struck out two batters.
The game was halted after Brayden Fraasman’s single led off the sixth inning for the Thunder.
The Spikes will now head to Kendrick Family Ballpark on Sunday to begin a three-game series against the West Virginia Black Bears with a 5:00 p.m. Right-hander Pablo Torres (0-2) will get the ball for State College to oppose West Virginia left-hander Hunter Holzemer (4-1), who leads the Black Bears in the second half with a 1.83 earned run average.
After the three-game set in West Virginia and an off day on Wednesday, the Spikes will return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Thursday night for the opener of a six-game series against the Williamsport Crosscutters to round out the regular season.
The skies will light up with a fantastic FIREWORKS show presented by Mount Nittany Health and the first 1,000 fans will receive a Nookie Monster Bobblehead Giveaway presented by McClure Company. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with early entry for Season Ticket holders and groups.
