BOX SCORE/GAME SUMMARY

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.Trey Cehajic, Zach Kilby and Patrick Morris teamed up on another stout pitching effort and Justin Journette collected three hits as the State College Spikes defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters, 5-2, on Monday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field in the penultimate game of the regular season.

However, with the Aberdeen IronBirds’ comeback win over the Trenton Thunder, the Spikes (25-20 2nd Half) were the last team eliminated from postseason contention before the MLB Draft League Championship Game.

Cehajic (4-2) logged 5 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out six more batters. The right-hander, making his last start of the 2026 season, made his fourth straight outing of five innings or more allowing two runs or less. Cehajic allowed five hits, three walks and a hit batsman in the effort.

Kilby then took over and pitched 1 2/3 innings of two-run ball before Morris (9) pitched two scoreless innings for the save. Morris, the left-hander out of Arizona, will finish as the MLB Draft League’s leader in saves for the 2026 season, with the Spikes’ Cale Willson in second place with six as he led the league’s first-half pitchers.

Journette, who also reached base on a hit by pitch in the seventh, recorded his fifth three-hit game of the season, a total that includes the franchise-record-tying five hits he collected in Trenton on July 31.

Jackson Rains opened the scoring with a two-run singled in the fourth for State College.

Williamsport (27-17 2nd Half) starter Kenney Fabian took the loss despite a quality six-inning start in which he allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters.

Tuesday, the Spikes will wrap up the season with the Crosscutters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in a 6:35 p.m. matchup. Right-hander Haden Luke (3-1), who along with Cehajic has formed a potent 1-2 punch in the State College rotation in the second half, will head to the bump for State College.

Williamsport’s probable starter will be left-hander Joel Tornero (1-1) as they shuffle their pitching rotation in anticipation of hosting the MLB Draft League Championship Game on Wednesday at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field against Aberdeen. The Crosscutters also still seek to become the first team in MLB Draft League history to win both halves of the regular season.
