The Major League Baseball Draft League announced on Tuesday that State College Spikes left-hander Mason Olson was named the MLB Draft League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 4-10.

Olson dominated in two starts this week, throwing five scoreless innings on July 4 at Mahoning Valley and coming back July 10 with five more shutout frames at Williamsport. The southpaw allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out 11 batters this week, including a season-high seven this past Sunday.

The Spanish Fork, Utah native has not allowed a run in his last 13 innings on the mound, and leads the MLB Draft League in earned run average with a 0.33 mark. Olson also tops the loop with 27 innings pitched, and his .138 opponents batting average is second-best in the league. After spending this past spring with the College of Southern Idaho, Olson is committed to continue his collegiate career at BYU.

Olson becomes the fifth hurler to earn the MLB Draft League Pitcher of the Week award this season. Trenton’s K.C. Hunt picked up in the inaugural award for the week of June 6-12, followed by Max Alba (June 13-19) and Trey Braithwaite (June 20-26) from West Virginia. Dan Kiritsis, another Trenton pitcher, received the honor for the week of June 27-July 3.
