Ross extends on-base streak to 21 games in Spikes' loss

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.Camden Ross extended his on-base streak to 21 games, approaching a State College Spikes record, but the Aberdeen IronBirds put up a pair of five-run frames to take an 11-1 decision on Saturday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Despite the loss, the Spikes (15-10 2nd Half) maintained a half-game lead over the IronBirds (15-11 2nd Half) in the MLB Draft League’s second-half standings with 21 games remaining in the 2026 season.

Ross drove in a run for his 34th RBI and notched two hits, including a double, to draw within five games of Rowan Wick’s franchise record 26-game on-base streak attained in 2014. The Spikes catcher and first baseman has now hit .370 with a .500 on-base percentage across both halves of the MLB Draft League season.

Brycen Hammonds, Max Galvin and Randy Flores each produced three hits for Aberdeen, with Hammonds driving in four runs, Galvin hitting his fourth home run of the season with solo shot to right field to lead off the sixth, and Flores finishing just a home run shy of the cycle. Aberdeen took the lead in the fourth, then added another quintet of runs in the sixth.

State College starter Jackson Mayo (3-1) took the loss. Mayo was charged with five runs on six hits while striking out four batters over 3 1/3 innings.

Aberdeen reliever Ryder Edwards (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings in which he yielded three hits and a walk for the win. Edwards recorded three strikeouts.

The Spikes will look to salvage the final game of their three-game set with the IronBirds on Sunday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Right-hander Pablo Torres (0-0) will get the start on the hill for State College in the 6:35 p.m. game, while Aberdeen will send right-hander Josh Milleville (0-2) to the mound.

Spikes fans can meet and greet a two-time National Champion wrestler with a Mitchell Mesenbrink Appearance presented by Lion Country Kia at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Mesenbrink, who has helped lead the way to three team national titles on the mat as well, will sign autographs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., taking time out to throw out the game’s first pitch.

In addition, the first 500 fans through the gates when they open at 5:30, with early admission for Season Ticket holders and groups, will receive a Mitchell Mesenbrink T-Shirt presented by Lion Country Kia.

Plus, Sunday is the final Bark in the Park of the season presented by Plum Pristine Clean and Timberland Federal Credit Union. Fans can bring their four-legged friend as the ballpark goes to the dogs.
