Brendan Donovan, who started his Road to the Show presented by HRI, Inc. with the State College Spikes in 2018, became the latest Spikes alum to be selected for the MLB All-Star Game on Sunday when he was named as a reserve to the National League squad.

Donovan joins Allen Craig (2013), Tony Watson (2014), Brock Holt (2015), Josh Bell (2019), Clay Holmes (2022, 2024) and Tyler Glasnow (2024) as Spikes to have begun their Road to the Show presented by HRI, Inc. in Happy Valley to have reached the Midsummer Classic. In addition, Starling Marte (2016, 2022) made a rehab assignment with the Spikes in 2012 and went on to be named to two MLB All-Star Games.

A fourth-year major leaguer, Donovan has hit .296 with seven home runs and 32 runs batted in as a utility player for the St. Louis Cardinals while alternating between second base, shortstop, left field and designated hitter this season.

Donovan, a product of South Alabama, joined the Spikes as the St. Louis Cardinals' seventh-round draft choice in 2018. The Enterprise, Ala. native played four games to open the 2018 season for the Spikes before embarking on his trek to St. Louis.

The Spikes currently have 74 players who have taken the Road to the Show presented by HRI, Inc., with more to come as the future of baseball plays in Happy Valley.

The Spikes enter the home stretch of their first-half MLB Draft League schedule with a five-game homestand stretching from Tuesday through Saturday immediately before the 2025 MLB Draft in Atlanta takes place as part of the All-Star Week festivities on Sunday and Monday.

Fans and their four-legged friends can enjoy Dugout’s 2nd Birthday Paw-ty at Tuesday’s game, as Dugout the Baseball Dog celebrates his 2nd birthday at Bark in the Park II. Dugout, the Spikes’ newest Labrador Retriever mascot, is from the same family tree as the late, great Bob the Baseball Dog, and with his birthday falling on Monday, we’ll get the favors ready for all the humans and canines celebrating with him on Tuesday.

Plus, it’s a Walking Taco Tuesday presented by Bigfoot Country Legends with half-price Walking Tacos at the Salsa concession stand in right field throughout the game.

The Spikes will meet Frederick on Wendesday and Thursday as well before the Williamsport Crosscutters visit on Friday and Saturday. All five games in the homestand begin at 6:35 p.m.

Highlights of the remainder of the week include appearances from the Pirate Parrot, the Pittsburgh Pierogies and the Bucco Brigade at BuccoMania on Friday, July 11, and FIREWORKS on Cancer Survivors Night presented by Penn Highlands Healthcare during the first-half finale on Saturday, July 12.

Tickets for Tuesday’s game as well every remaining home game on the Spikes’ 2025 regular season schedule through August 28 are available by calling 814-272-1711 or by visiting the Spikes Ticket Office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, 9 a.m. until the end of the game on Friday, and 10 a.m. until the end of the game on Saturday and Sunday.
