
FREDERICK, Md. - In a battle to the final out, the Williamsport Crosscutters saw their five-game win streak come to an end with a 4-3 walk-off loss to the Frederick Keys on Friday night at Nymeo Field in Frederick, Maryland.
After a scoreless first, Williamsport would take the first lead off the ballgame as Joey Parliment singled to lead off the frame and scored two batters later on a Carlos Castillo sacrifice fly to center.
Frederick would take their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third as Jamal Ritter drove a three-run homer to right, giving the Keys a 3-1 lead after three innings.
The Cutters would wait until the fifth to respond with Marcus Brodil and Carlos Castillo led things off with back-to-back singles. Castillo would be erased on a Matt Flaherty double-play ball but would be replaced on the basepaths by Marquis Jackson after a walk. Vantrel Reed would drive in Brodil and Jackson Mayo would drive in Jackson with back-to-back singles of their own to tie the game at 3-3, a score that would hold into the ninth.
Frederick would mount a two-out rally with a double and a single to walk-off Williamsport 4-3 in the series opener.
On a bullpen night, Isaac Fix got the start and surrendered three runs on five hits, including a home run, with three walks and five strikeouts in three innings of work.
Josh Leerssen went the next three, shutting out the Keys and only allowing one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.
Jared Ure took the loss, falling to 1-1, after two and two-thirds innings allowing two hits and the game-winning run.
Holland Townes entered to face the final batter of the game and surrendered the game-winning hit.
Williamsport continues their five-game road trip on Saturday night with the middle game of this three-game series at the Frederick Keys. First pitch from Nymeo Field is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
