HOME GAME WEB STORY (MAHONING VALLEY) (6)

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Jackson Mayo and Marcus Brodil powered the Crosscutters to a 9-2 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Thursday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.

It took a bit for the Crosscutters offense to get in motion, being held scoreless over the first four innings of the game. Williamsport had chances to score in those frames, stranding six runners.

In the 5th, down 2-0, the Cutters offense turned it on, seeing the first six batters reach safely, scoring four runs.

Safea Villaruz-Mauai opened the Cutters scoring, drawing a bases loaded walk to score Vantrel Reed to make it 2-1. Michael Zarrillo followed by getting hit by a pitch, scoring Jackson Mayo to tie the game.

Marcus Brodil ripped a pitch through the right side of the infield, scoring Max Mandler and Villaru-Mauai to gibe the Cutters their first led of the night.

Cutters starter, A.J. Campbell was able to use that offense, working six innings and allowing just two runs on three hits. The right-hander out of Barton College struck out four as he earned his second win of the season.

In the bottom of the 8th, the Crosscutters put the game away, plating five runs, all with two outs. Jackson Mayo started it off with his furth hit of the night, a single to center, followed by a ringing double to left-center by Max Mandler, which plated Mayo to make it 5-2.

Villaruz-Mauai followed up with a 403-foot, wall-ball triple to right-center, to score Mandler and give the Cutters a 6-2 lead.

Michael Zarrillo squibbed an infield single back towards the mound, allowing Villaruz-Mauai to cross and make it 7-2.

Marcus Brodil put the bow on it, drilling a 432-foot, two-run home run into the trees beyond the wall in right-center. His first home run of the season and the longest hit by any batter at Journey Bank Ballpark this season.

Sam Swygert, who took over in the 7th inning, worked a three-up-three-down 9th inning to earn his first save of the season.

The Crosscutters take their five-game win streak on the road, starting a three-game series with the Frederick Keys tomorrow night. First pitch at Nyemo Field is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
