Pitching Dominates in Series Finale Against Spikes

State College, PA– The Cutters took two out of three from State College, capping off the series with a 6–2 win in game three. Cutters pitching combined to give up two runs on four hits with ten strikeouts. Starter Nick Meyer allowed one unearned run through six innings.

Cutters starter Nick Meyer threw four scoreless innings without allowing a hit. He pitched six total innings, allowing only a run on two hits with seven strikeouts.

The Cutters struck first, taking a 1–0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. They got a little assistance from a fielding error on a groundball hit by first baseman Carter Mize, that brought a runner home from second. Designated hitter E.J. Taylor and Mize performed a successful double-steal to put the Cutters up 2–0.

The Cutters extended its lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Right fielder Connor Denning, shortstop Travis Holt, and Mize hit three consecutive RBI singles to make the score 5–0.

Centerfielder Taylor Jackson added a run with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 6–0.

The Spikes broke through on Meyer in the bottom of the sixth on a fielding error. Another run came home in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 6–2.

State College threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with one out. Jesse Bolt came on in relief for Blake Svoboda, strikeout out the final two batters to close out the win.

The Cutters move to 16-10 after taking two out of three from State College, traveling to Trenton on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. game.
