Missed Chances Costly For Cutters

Williamsport, PA - The Crosscutters left eight runners on base, missing to cash in on some golden chances, in their 7-5 loss to the Scrappers Saturday night.

Cutters Starter Wesley Scott made his debut on the mound and the right hander worked three solid frames, allowing an unearned run and striking out four in a no decision.

The Scrappers starter Will Geerdes was strong, tossing four shutout frames, holding the Crosscutters to just one hit, a Cole Evans double in the 3rd.

After the Scrappers extended their lead with two runs in the top of the 5th inning against Cutters reliever Mauricio Rodriguez, the Cutters offense came to life against the Scrappers bullpen.

Isaac Nunez worked a lead off walk, and advanced to 3rd on a error by pitcher Sean Goodwin. Nunez scored on a wild pitch to get the Cutters on the board at 3-1.

Hogan McIntosh was able to tie the game with a two-out, two-run double down the right field line to chance home Matthew Etzel and Josue Urdaneta who both had reached via walks against Goodwin.

The game did not remain tied for long, as the Scrappers were able to plate four runs in the top of the 6th inning against reliever JJ Sanchez, who managed to work just a third of an inning. Sanchez was saddled with the loss, his 2nd .

Williamsport got great relief pitching from the 7th inning on, as Kyler Patterson worked two and two/thirds innings of shut out relief, striking out two and Jacob Peaden had a scoreless inning in the top of the 9th, striking out two, helping to keep the Cutters alive.

Matthew Etzel scored his 2nd run of the game in the bottom of the 7th inning to bring the Cutters deficit to 7-4. Cole Evans plated Lance Logsdon with a double in the bottom of the 8th to make it 7-5.

With two in scoring position and two outs in the 8th, Etzel struck out in a full count, ending the last scoring chance for the Cutters as they went down in order in the bottom of the 9th .

The Crosscutters look to take the series Mahoning Valley Scrappers tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
