
Williamsport, Pa. - James McCoy scored four runs as the Crosscutters used a 8-1 victory to complete the sweep of the Scrappers on Sunday at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Matthew Williams opened the scoring for the second-straight night, ripping a two-out double to center, scoring James McCoy to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead. It was Williams eighth double and 32nd RBI of the season.
McCoy opened the bottom of the 4th with a bunt single and took 2nd on a balk call before Trey Wells ripped a double down the left filed line to chase home McCoy to up the Williamsport lead to 2-1. It was the seventh double and 15th RBI for Wells.
Nick Barone added two more with a single to center, chasing home Chris Stanfield and Wells to make it 4-1. Barone upped his RBI count to four for the series and 28 on the season.
Jake Zitella capped the scoring with a RBI single to score Sam DeCarlo, giving the Cutters a 5-1 advantage and giving Zitella his 11th RBI of the year.
McCoy didn’t need anyone to drive him home in the 6th, opening the frame with a line drive home run to left, his 6th of the season to make it 6-1 Williamsport and to give McCoy his team-leading 37th RBI.
In the 8th, McCoy ripped his 14th double of the season, moving Jack Kail to 3rd base. Kail would score on a wild pitch to make it 7-1. McCoy moved up to 3rd on the play, allowing Stanfield to plate McCoy with a sacrifice fly to give the Cutters a 8-1 lead. For Stanfield it was his 24th RBI of the season.
Evan Grimes got the start for Williamsport and delivered four innings while battling his pitch count. Despite allowing just a single unearned run, Grimes threw 72 pitches in his outing before being relieved by Luc Lavigueur in the 5th.
Lavigueur gave the Cutters his longest outing of the season, working 2.1 innings of perfect relief, striking out two of the five batters that he faced. The effort gave Lavigueur his second win of the season.
Davin Pollard and Brody Roe closed out the game, combining to work 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
The Crosscutters have tomorrow off before starting a two-game set in State College on Tuesday.
