
Williamsport, P.A. – In a battle of arms, the Crosscutters take the first game of the series via a walk-off sacrifice fly, against the Thunder on Monday night at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Shaun Gamelin was looking for a bounce back performance on the mound, making this third start of the season. The right-hander did just that, working 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball. Gamelin struck out five, not allowing a walk, in a no decision.
Mark Shallenberger gave the Cutters a lead in the bottom of the 5th inning, ripping a ground ball through a drawn in infield, scoring Mikey Florides to make t 1-0. Cory Taylor was called out at the plate on the play. Shallenberger picked up his 7th RBI of the season.
Zachary Murray entered with a runner at 3rd and two outs in the top of the 7th inning, and was able to strand the runner.
Trenton would get even in the 8th inning however, getting a run against Murray on a sacrifice fly from Chase Englehard.
Parker Kruglewicz entered in the top of the 9th, striking out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless frame.
Antonio Escano entered for the Thunder in the bottom of the 9th, walking Jacob Corson and then hitting both Mitch McCabe and Josh Lopez to load the bases with no outs.
Kyson Donahue, who had not recorded a RBI on the season to this point, lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Corson from third to give the Crosscutters a 2-1 win to open the series.
Williamsport continues their three-game series with Trenton on Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m.
