Williamsport, P.A. – The Crosscutters dropped their regular-season finale, 16-3, to the State College Spikes.
The Crosscutters, by design, threw five position players in the loss. Williamsport saved their arms for tomorrow night’s MLB Draft League Championship Game.
McGwire Holbrook continued his hot streak at the plate, driving in his 32nd RBI of the season with a single in the 1st. The Cutters catcher finished the night 2-for-3 with a walk.
First basemen, Mark Shallenberger also kept his hot hitting alive, going 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Shallenberger was subbed out in the 5th inning for Josh Lopez.
Porter Brown (2-4), Jacob Corson (2-4) and Kyson Donahue (2-2) also recorded multi-hit games for the Crosscutters, who finished with 12 hits in the losing effort.
Corson picked up his 24th RBI of the season with a seeing-eye single through the right side in the 5th inning. That would be the final run scored by the Cutters on the night.
Infielder, Will Binder, made his first start and fourth pitching appearance for the Cutters. The right-hander, who has only pitched in one-sided games, took his first loss of the season.
Outfielder Ali LaPread, infielder Kyson Donahue, infielder Mikey Florides and infielder Levi Perrell also pitched for the Crosscutters.
Williamsport finishes the regular season with a 35-36 overall record, but as First Half Champions, they will host the MLB Draft League Championship Game tomorrow night.
The Trenton Thunder clinched the 2nd Half Championship on Wednesday, and will make the trip to Williamsport, first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
