The State College Spikes today announced the promotion of Dan Petrazzolo to General Manager and the hiring of Jonathan Runkle as Director of Sales, effective immediately.
Petrazzolo has been the Spikes’ Assistant General Manager since 2015 and the operations head at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park since Feburary of 2007.
A native of New Jersey, Dan worked as Director of Operations with the Atlantic City Surf in the then-independent Atlantic League before joining the Spikes. For the past two decades, he has worked closely with the Spikes’ MLB affiliates on areas such as clubhouse operations, player equipment and uniforms, managing clubhouse personnel, and assisting in the professional development of many young baseball players starting their journey to the big leagues.
In his role, Runkle will lead the Spikes’ efforts in ticket sales, corporate partnerships and group and hospitality experiences, as well as overseeing the club’s staff in these areas.
A lifelong native of Centre County, Jonathan is a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School and Penn State University. Through his career in Happy Valley, most recently at Seven Mountains Media, Runkle has forged relationships across the region and has been a longtime, passionate contributor to a variety of local causes. A long-suffering fan of the New York Mets, Runkle is a father of four children and lives in State College.
“We are very pleased to promote Dan Petrazzolo to be our General Manager and bring Jonathan Runkle on board to lead our sales and partnerships team,” said Spikes Chairman & Managing Partner Chuck Greenberg. “Dan’s intensive operational knowledge and passion for creating a positive experience for our fans, combined with Jonathan’s deep connections to the Happy Valley community and his enthusiasm for the Spikes, will help propel us forward as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary Season and look forward to many more.”
“I could not be happier to have Dan rising into the new role as our General Manager and Jonathan joining our team,” said Spikes President Scott Walker. “Dan has played an invaluable part of the Spikes for nearly the entire history of the franchise, and Jonathan has always been a tremendous supporter of the Spikes. I am overjoyed that these two great people, who I know share the same commitment to providing fun, affordable family entertainment as we have for 20 seasons in the Happy Valley community, will allow us to move onward and upward as an organization.”
“I am excited to help move the State College Spikes forward as an organization and continue our long tradition of delivering memorable experiences to our fans at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park,” said Petrazzolo. “I relish the opportunity to work alongside Jonathan Runkle and our tremendous front office staff on creating a positive, fan-friendly atmosphere as we create the next chapter in the Spikes’ story.”
“State College has always been home to me, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the State College Spikes as Director of Sales,” said Runkle. “Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to build strong relationships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders, and I look forward to bringing those connections and experiences to this role. The Spikes are more than a baseball team; they are a community institution. I am excited to help create meaningful partnerships that benefit our fans, our sponsors, and the entire Happy Valley region.”
