2016 State College Spikes infielder Tommy Edman, who helped lead the Spikes to a New York-Penn League Championship, sent the Los Angeles Dodgers to the World Series and set a new Dodger record for runs batted in during a National League Championship Series as he earned the 2024 NLCS Most Valuable Player award on Sunday night.
Edman hit .407 and knocked in a total of 11 runs during the six-game victory over the New York Mets, with four of them coming in Sunday's series-clinching Game 6. The Dodger utility man doubled home two runs in the first inning to give Los Angeles the lead in the first, then smashed a two-run homer, his first postseason long ball as a major leaguer, in the third.
A sixth-round draft choice of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016, Edman played a key role in the Spikes' NYPL title during his debut professional season as a shortstop and second baseman. Following five seasons in the bigs with the Cardinals, Edman was traded to the Dodgers at the deadline this year and began the National League Division Series in center field before shifting to shortstop, where he played all six NLCS games.
The Spikes will continue bringing the future of baseball to Happy Valley during the upcoming 2025 season, which starts on Friday, June 6.
