Frederick Keys Win 5-1 over Mahoning Valley

FREDERICK, MD - Tuesday’s Series opener against Mahoning Valley provided plenty for the Keys fans and four legged friends to howl about on Bark in the Park Night presented by Dogtopia.

The Keys struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Kendrey Maduro (Northwest Florida State) hit a fly ball to Scrappers right fielder, Prince DeBoskie (Central Arizona) driving in Tervell Johnson (Compton) giving the Keys a 1-0 lead.

The Scrappers evened the score in top of the second inning on a solo homerun from Mason Sykes (Toledo). Keys starter, Nolan Santos (Bethune-Cookman) settled in to record three straight put outs to get out of the second inning.

The offense quieted as Scrappers starter, Elijah Pleasants (Trevecca Nazerene) and Santos battled.  Diego Jordan (Park-Gilbert) was summoned from the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth inning.  He allowed a double to the first Keys batter he faced, AJ Shaver (Florida Southwestern State).  Then Keys Centerfielder, Logan Sanders (St Petersburg) singled to advance AJ shaver to third with one out.  Johnson came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and runners on second and third after Sanders stole second.  Johnson struck a ground rule double down the left line allowing Shaver and Sanders to score, making it 3-1 Frederick.

The Keys would add a single run in the bottom of the seventh and eighth inning to increase the lead to 5-1.  The Scrappers never made a push and the final score was 5-1.
