FREDERICK, MD – The list of Frederick Keys players to the big leagues gained two members this week as right-handed 2024 pitchers Dawson Netz and Jay Allmer signed Minor League contracts.
Netz, who played in the first and second half for the Keys last summer, signed with the Chicago Cubs on April 25. During 11 games pitched in Frederick, the former Arizona Wildcat compiled a 3.32 ERA, 33 strikeouts, and a 4-0 record in 21.2 innings on the mound, while only allowing only four walks.
While in Tucson, Netz tied for second place on Arizona’s all-time career appearances list with 94 and entered the 2024 campaign with PAC-12 Preseason All-Conference Honors. After being named a graduate manager prior to the 2025 season, Netz will move to rookie ball and play for the Arizona Complex League Cubs team.

Meanwhile, Allmer finalized his contract with the Boston Red Sox this past Wednesday following his solid second half with Frederick as the team’s closer.
In 17 games last summer, the Cary, North Carolina native finished with a league high eight saves and 17 strikeouts in 21 innings. He only allowed five walks and posted a 2.18 ERA, quickly becoming a premier bullpen arm in the MLB Draft League.
Prior to his time in Frederick, Allmer began his career at UNC Asheville for his first two years before transferring to Seton Hall, where he concluded his college career in 2024 by having a 2.73 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 29.2 innings. Now, he will take his next step in Salem, Virginia with the Red Sox Single-A affiliate Salem Red Sox.
The Frederick Keys begin their 2025 season against the West Virginia Black Bears on Wednesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
