Frederick, MD – The Frederick Keys (13-12) defeated the Trenton Thunder (6-17) on Saturday night by a final score of 8-7 at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.

Ben Fitzgerald’s (UC Irvine) walk-off RBI single in the 9th with the bases loaded completed the comeback after Frederick trailed 7-6 heading into the inning.

With Frederick trailing by one with two outs in the 9th and Tyrese Clayborne (Texas Southern) at third, Hunter Jump (Kentucky) came through in the clutch and tied the game with an RBI double to the wall in left-center.

An intentional walk and a hit by pitch later sent Fitzgerald to the plate to try and win the game for the Keys to avoid the extra inning sudden death tiebreaker.

On a 2-1 pitch from Trenton reliever Hunter Waldis, Fitzgerald grounded it up the middle into center-field, scoring Jump from third and securing the series over the Thunder.

This was the first Frederick walk-off win of the summer.

On offense, Fitzgerald led the way with a game-high three hits and four RBI, including a three-run home run in the 1st. Robert Brooks (Columbus State) also collected two RBI, including his third home run of the summer in the 8th.

The Keys will go for the sweep tomorrow, August 21, against the Trenton Thunder in the third and final game of the series. First pitch on Sunday is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
