FREDERICK, MD – P.J. Labriola (2024) became the latest Keys player to sign a professional contract this week after signing a Minor League deal with the Boston Red Sox this past Thursday.

Labriola, who was assigned to the Florida Complex League Red Sox Rookie Ball team, heads to the professional ranks following stints in the Frontier and Pioneer League. Rookie Ball serves as the first step in which rookies from across all MLB teams play before getting called up to affiliated baseball.

Most recently, the former Clemson Tiger and North Carolina State Wolfpack pitched three games for the New York Boulders in the Frontier League. Despite seeing limited action for the Boulders, Labriola served as the closer in each of his three games pitched and recorded a save and two strikeouts.

Labriola also spent time last summer with the Rocky Mountain Vibes in the Pioneer League where he pitched in six games and threw eight strikeouts. Additionally, the Bradenton, Florida native tossed in seven innings for the Vibes and became a late-game reliever in the second half of the 2024 campaign.

During Labriola’s time in Frederick, he pitched in four games in the first half and recorded a 0.00 ERA in five innings pitched. Labriola also finished with five strikeouts while not allowing any walks, quickly becoming a reliable reliving arm during the final few weeks of the first half.

The Frederick Keys begin their 2025 season against the West Virginia Black Bears on Wednesday, June 4 at 7 p.m. at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium.
