Twice As Nice! Cutters Down Thunder For Second Straight Win

Road Game - Trenton (5)

Trenton, NJ – For the second straight night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, the Williamsport Crosscutters have picked up the upset win, defeating the Trenton Thunder 6-5 on Wednesday night.

Porter Brown got the offense started in the first with his seventh double of the season, followed by a single for Cory Taylor and a single for Jacob Corson. That Corson single scored Brown and gave Corson his 22nd RBI of the season.

Williamsport's offense would quiet down until roaring back to life in the fifth inning. Mark Shallenberger led off with a single and stole second, his fourth stolen base of the season. Two batters later with two outs, Jacob Harper would single, scoring Shallenberger from second. Levi Perrell would single as well, followed by a Porter Brown walk, to load the bases. Harper would score on a wild pitch while Perrell and Brown would score on a Cory Taylor single to give the Cutters the 5-0 lead.

Trenton would respond for three runs before Williamsport found the scoreboard again in the eighth. With one out, Kyson Donahue would single and move to second as Jacob Harper worked a walk. Donahue would steal third, his first stolen base of the season, and scored on an RBI fielder's choice to make it 6-3.

The Thunder would rally in the ninth but Williamsport would be able to hold on for the 6-5 victory, the second straight Williamsport win over then first place Trenton.

Shawn Gamelin improved to 2-1 on the mound after his 5.2 innings start on the mound tonight, allowing three Thunder runs on four hits with two walks, two hit batters and seven strikeouts.

Chase Gockel (Hold, 1) and Nick McCollum (Hold, 1) would combine to shutout Trenton over the next 2.1 innings. Gockel would allow no hits but walked two while McCollum allowed just one lone hit.

Logan Berrier was able to hold on to earn his first save of the season, allowing three runs on two hits in the ninth inning.
