
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Walks and errors doomed the Crosscutters, allowing a season-high 21 runs in their loss to Trenton on Tuesday night.
Cooper Markham suffered his third loss of the season, allowing three runs (all earned) on four hits and three walks. He did strike out four batters in his three innings of work.
Boston Smith brought the Crosscutters with in one in the bottom of the 3rd inning, connecting on his third home run of the season, scoring Ryan Kennell, to make it 3-2. Smith’s homer traveled an estimated 409 feet.
Trenton responded in the top of the 4th inning, scoring seven runs against Cutters reliever, Jonny Lowe. Six of the seven runs allowed were earned.
Matthew Bardowell, coming off a week in which he was named the MLB Draft League Batter of the week, plated a run in the 5th inning with a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 10-3 at the time.
Trenton continued their scoring with two runs in the 6th and three runs in the 7th. All five runs were scored against reliever Ryan Faulks. Faulks worked 2.1 innings, issuing five walks in the outing.
Matt Ilgenfritz picked up the first of his two triples in the 7th inning, rocketing a pitch to right. Ilgenfritz was waved home on a throwing error by Trenton right fielder, Jaden Sheffield, to plate the Cutters fourth run of the night.
After Trenton plated five more runs against Cade Davis (all unearned), taking advantage of three Cutters errors, Ilgenfritz collected his second triple of the night, ripping an offering deep to right-center, scoring Matthew Bardowell.
The Cutters look to rebound tomorrow night in the finale of this quick, two-game series against Trenton. First pitch, scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
