Scrappers Win in High-Scoring Game

Final Score- Williamsport 8. Mahoning Valley 15

Niles, OH – The Scrappers defeated the Crosscutters 15–8 in a high-scoring game in Mahoning Valley. The balls were flying as both teams combined to hit five home runs in the game.

Shortstop Josue Urdaneta got things started with a two-run blast in the top of the first scoring center fielder Matthew Etzel for a 2–0 lead.

The Scrappers took over the game with an eight-run second inning. Zach Dezenzo homered to bring the game within one run. The Scrappers hit three straight singles to tie the game at 2–2. They took the lead on an error and then earned a walk to load the bases. Bobby Sparling cleared the bases with a double followed by another double to bring Sparling home. Mahoning Valley scored their eighth run on a wild pitch to make it 8–2.

Mahoning Valley added two more runs in the third inning on a home run by Buck Anderson to extend their lead to 10–2. 

The Cutters grabbed some runs back in the top of the fourth inning scoring three runs. Catcher Eddie Niemann III reached first base on a fielder’s choice and then advanced to third on a single by second baseman Edarian Williams. Eztel hit and infield single to score Niemann III. First baseman Tayden Hall singled two batters later to bring Williams and Etzel home to make it a 10–5 game. 

The Scrappers inched away scoring a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to make the score 13–5 while the Cutters were blanked in the fifth and sixth inning. 

The Cutters blasted their second home run of the game in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run shot from designated hitter Isaac Nunez to make the game 13–7. Left fielder Daniel Harris IV hit an RBI single in the eighth inning to make the score 13–8. 

The Scrappers added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to increase their lead to 15–8. 

Urdaneta, Hall and Nunez each had two RBI and Urdaneta and Nunez each had three hits. Etzel picked up two hits and an RBI and Harris IV drove in a run.

Cutters Carvings: The Cutters gave up six unearned runs in the ballgame … the Cutters were 6-for-19 with runners in scoring position … Isaac Nunez had eight total bases in the game … every batter in the Scrappers lineup had at least one hit.
