Pitching Dominates as Cutters Remain Undefeated

Final Score- Williamsport 5 State College 1

State College – Despite being two-hit in the ballgame, the Cutters defeated the Spikes 5–1 as pitching continues to dominate in Williamsport’s 4–0 start in the second half of the season. The Cutters pitching staff has a 1.00 ERA through the first four games.

Starting pitcher Brandon Kaminer struck out three Spikes batters over three innings. He allowed one hit and three hits but gave up no runs in his outing.

The Cutters went hitless the first time through the order, while the Spikes only picked up one hit over the first three innings. The Cutters got their first hit and the first run of the game in the top of the fourth with an RBI double from second baseman Daniel Harris IV. Right fielder Connor Denning scored after he walked earlier in the inning.

Matt Gilbertson pitched in relief, throwing four innings. He also kept the Spikes off the board, allowing four hits. Shortstop Mike Anthony and Harris IV combined for a 6-4-3 double play with two runners on to end the fourth inning.

The Cutters added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning without getting a hit. Two walks and a fielding error loaded the bases with only one out. Denning earned his third walk of the game to bring home a run. Catcher Jake Urena scored on a wild pitch to give Williamsport a 3–0 lead.

Center fielder Nemo Wright led off the eighth with a single for Williamsport’s second hit of the game. Two straight fielding errors scored Wright and put runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly by Harris IV brought home a run and he earned his second RBI of the game and a 5–0 lead.

State College scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder’s choice with the bases loaded.

Christian Lopez took the mound in the ninth to toss a three-up, three-down inning to close out another win for the Cutters.

The Cutters remain undefeated to start the second half of the Draft League as they return to Williamsport to face the Spikes at 6:35 p.m.
