Williamsport, PA - Crosscutters pitching combined to strike out a season-high 16 on the same night the Cutters offense is shut out for the first time, dropping Saturday night’s game 5-0 to the State College Spikes.
Starting pitcher Easton Sikorski worked one innings, allowing a hit in his scoreless frame. Sikorski picked up the first strikeout of the night for the Cutters.
Nick Meyer was the first out of the bullpen and struck out three in the 2nd inning, but suffered some tough luck in the frame. A couple times, Meyer delivered strike three to a batter than was called a ball, extending the at bat. Those missed strike three’s turned into four, two-out runs for the Spikes, who lead 4-0 in the top of the 2nd .
Meyer came out for the 3rd inning, striking out two more in a perfect inning of relief. Unfortunately, Meyer would suffer the loss, his 2nd of the season.
Sal Fusco took over on the mound in the 4th inning, tossing a perfect frame, picking up his first strike out of the night. In the 5th inning, Fusco would surrender a run on a two- out double to center by Alex Toral. Fusco struck out the next batter, his second, to end the inning.
Creed Watkins took over in the 6th inning and had some control issues, but would strike out two of the three batters he faced. Against his final batter, Watkins threw back-to-back 99 MPH fastballs to strikeout Jake DeFries.
Kyler Patterson worked the next inning and two thirds, striking out three. He gave up a one out triple in the 7th but a strikeout and a ground out kept that runner at 3rd. After striking out the first two batters of the 8th, Patterson was replaced by Jacob Peaden.
Peaden retired the only batter he faced in the 8th via a ground out. He then went on to strikeout the side in the top of the 9th inning, finishing with three strikeouts of his own.
Despite all of this great pitching, the Crosscutters offense was shutout for the first time this season, being held to a season-low two hits and drawing a season-low three walks in the loss.
