TRENTON, N.J. - The Williamsport Crosscutters offense scored double digit runs on eleven hits to snap their four-game losing streak, defeating the Trenton Thunder 10-7 on Saturday night at Trenton Thunder Ballpark.
Williamsport would again open the scoring at Trenton in the third inning. Braylon Bishop and Joey Parliment would start the inning with back-to-back singles and both would advance into scoring position on a balk. They would both be driven home by a sharply hit single to center by Marcus Brodil to make it 2-0.
Trenton would respond in the bottom of the frame for two runs of their own, making it 2-2 after three innings of play.
The Cutters would respond in the top of the fifth inning as Braylon Bishop would lead-off with another single and stole second, his second stolen base since arriving in Billtown. Two batters later, Vantrel Reed drove his third home run of the season 350 feet over the left field wall, brining Bishop around with him, to give Williamsport a 4-2 lead in the middle of the fifth inning.
That score would hold until the bottom of the sixth as the Thunder struck for five runs to take a 7-4 lead after six innings.
In the top of the seventh, Braylon Bishop once again would be the first Cutters hitter to reach, this time with his first double of the yar for Williamsport. Bishop would quickly score on a pop up single to right by Joey Parliment. Vantrel Reed and Jackson Reed both would then work walks to load up the bases for Marcus Brodil. Brodil singled to left, pushing across both Parliment and Reed and advancing Mayo to second. Two batters later, Carlos Castillo singled to right to score Mayo, Brodil moved up to third and Castillo advanced into scoring position on the thrrow. DJ Smiley was next up and singled as well, this time to left, to push across Brodil and Castillo to cap the nights scoring as Williamsport took a 10-7 lead at stretch time that would go on to be the final score.
Jax Howard got his first start of the season and would work the first two innings, shutting out Trenton and allowing just three hits.
AJ Campbell would follow, making his first appearance out of the bullpen, and would last three and a third innings. Campbell surrendered seven runs, five earned, on eleven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Jed Boyle closed out the game and earned the win, his second of the season, after shutting down Trenton. Boyle went the final three and two-thirds innings allowing no runs on two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Williamsport continues this six-game, seven-day road trip as they move on to a three-game series with the West Virginia Black Bears. The series begins on Sunday night at Kendrick Family Ballpark in Granville, West Virginia with a 6:00 p.m. first pitch.
