
Williamsport, PA - Starter Nick Meyer struck out a season-high 11 State College batters as the Crosscutters handed the Spikes a 7-1 loss.
Meyer struck out the 11 batters over the course of 6.1shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk. Meyer lowered his ERA to 3.43 as he picked up his 3rd win of the season. The 11 strkeouts are the second-most by a pitcher in the MLB Draft League this season.
RF Conner Denning opened the scoring for the Crosscutters, launching his 2nd home run of the season into the Cutters bullpen in right, estimated at 357 feet. It gave Williamsport a 1-0 advantage.
Williamsport used their base running abilities in to add on in the bottom of the 2nd inning, stealing five bases, including Nemo Wright’s theft of home on a double steal, to go along with back-to-back RBI doubles from Denning and SS Travis Holt to plate four in the innings and bump their lead to 5-0.
OF Nemo Wright added on to the Cutters lead in the bottom of the 5th inning, ripping a two-run single to center, scoring 3B Daniel Harris IV and DH Chris Swanberg to give Williamsport a 7-0 advantage.
Logan Bowen took over with one out and two on in the top of the 7th inning and was able to work out of the inning to keep the game scoreless.
State College would find the scoreboard against Bowen in the top of the 8th, scoring an unearned run to break up the combined shutout effort.
Bown worked the final 2.2 innings and induced a pair of double plays along the way, to get the Cutters back in the win column.
The Crosscutters look to take game two of the series tomorrow night, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
