WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Amman Dewberry’s two-run triple in the bottom of the 7th inning completed the comeback as the Crosscutters defeated the Thunder, 6-5, on Saturday night.
Williamsport’s offense was stymied through the first four innings by Trenton Starting Pitcher Miguel Sime. Sime, who touched 100 MPH on the mound, worked four scoreless frames, allowing one hit and striking out six.
Trenton backed Sime’s outing, scoring four runs against Cutter’s starter, Jake Moss, and a fifth run against Cutter’s reliever Jonny Lowe, to take a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning.
Once Trenton went to the bullpen, the tides started to shift in the favor of Williamsport, ,as the Cutters were able to take advantage of three walks and hit batter, scoring two runs against Clayton Johnson to cut the deficit to 5-2 after five.
In the sixth, Williamsport added two more runs, as Ryan Kennell’s RBI ground out and Logan Johnstone’s RBI infield single brought Williamsport within one at 5-4.
In the seventh, Williamsport saw the tying run reach on a rocket double to center off the bat of Hayden Jatczak, which was followed by Matthew Bardowell getting hit by a pitch. With two on, Amman Dewberry ripped a pitch over the 1st base bag and into the right field corner, scoring two and giving the Cutters their first lead of the night, at 6-5.
Unlike Trenton, Williamsport’s bullpen was stellar, allowing one run over six innings of work. Tyler Dietz struck out two of the three batters he faced in the 7th inning, earning his first win of the season.
Dakota Stone also struck out two of the three batters he faced, working a scoreless inning in the 7th inning.
Brad Rudis followed suit, striking out two of the three batters he faced in the 9th, earning his second save of the season.
The Crosscutters look for the three-game series sweep of the Thunder tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
