Dalena’s Homer Not Enough For Cutters

GAME RECAP FOR WEBSITE

Trenton, N.J. - Making his first start for the Crosscutters, Montoursville native Maddix Dalena crushed a 418-foot solo home run but it wouldn’t be enough as the Cutters dropped the opening game of the road series at the Trenton Thunder 2-1 on Friday night.

Both teams went hitless into third until Trenton's Joek Rivera singled. He would then steal second and move to third on a throwing error by Cutters catcher Nate McHugh. Rivera would score on another error, this time by second baseman Addison Smith, to give Trenton the early 1-0 lead.

Williamsport wasted no time responding as Maddix Dalena homered in the fouth to tie the game up at 1-1.

Both teams would trade scoreless innings until the bottom of the seventh as Trenton's Ny'Zaiah Thompson worked a one out walk, advanced into scoring position on a hit-by-pitch, and scored on a Joek Rivera double to take the game to it's final score of 2-1 in favor of the Thunder.

Enger Paulino got the start on the mound for Williamsport in his MLB Draft League debut and would allow just one unearned run in three innings of work, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out five.

Joey Ciancimino entered first in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out one in two innings.

Jordan Savinon suffered the loss in his debut, allowing an earned run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts.

Vincent Borghese worked the final inning and a third for Williamsport, allowing no runs and no hits, no walks, and striking out three.

With tonight's loss, Williamsport falls to 1-3 on the young season.

Williamsport and Trenton continue this three-game series with Game #2 Saturday night from Trenton Thunder Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
