
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Severe weather brought Wednesday night’s game to an abrupt end, but do to the rule of baseball, the Cutters escaped with a 6-4 lead despite trailing when the rains came.
Due to baseball rules, the game was reverted to the final full inning played, giving the Cutters the 6-4 victory and erasing the stats from the top of the 7th inning.
Cutters Starting Pitcher, Ryan Ure, made his first start of the season, allowing two runs over three innings. The Oklahoma State product allowed four hits and three walks in the outing.
Williamsport’s offense was held in check through the first four innings, but they were able to cash in on a couple Keys miscues in the fifth inning.
Matthew Bardowell led off the frame with a single to right and came across on a Cooper Robinson wild pitch to cut the deficit to 2-1. Ryan Kennell capped the scoring, stealing home as a part of a double steal attempt, tying the game at 2-2.
After retiring the first six batters he faced, Crosscutters reliever, Merit Jones surrendered two runs and the lead in the top of the 6th inning. Jones finished the night, allowing two runs, one earned on two hits. The University of Utah product struck out five batters.
In the bottom of the 6th, Williamsport’s offense responded in a big way, crossing four runs to take their first lead of the night.
Matthew Graveline ripped a two-strike offering through the left side, plating Matt Ilgenfritz and Logan Johnstone to tie the game at 4-4. It gave Graveline his 7th and 8th RBI of the season.
Hayden Jatczak scored the third run of the inning on a wild pitch to give the Cutters their first lead, 5-4.
Shortstop, Ryan Kennell, drove in the final run if the inning with a RBI groundout to short, scoring Graveline, making it a 6-4 Crosscutters advantage.
Frederick answered again, this time scoring three runs in the top of the 7th inning, taking a 7-6 lead against Tyler Dietz. Dietz allowed three runs, all earned, in two-thirds of an inning.
After the completion of the top half of the 7th inning, the tarp went on the field for impending severe weather.
The Crosscutters wrap up their series with the Keys tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. at Journey Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
