Cutters Fall Late

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Crosscutters allowed a four-run seventh inning, leading to their 6-0 loss to West Virginia.

Starting Pitcher, Brad Rudis, was strong for the Crosscutters. The right-hander out of Texas A&M worked three scoreless frames, striking out five batters, a season-high. For Rudis, it was his first start and longest outing of the season.

Drew Leerssen was the first out of the Williamsport bullpen and he picked up when Rudis left out. The Samford product tossed three scoreless innings, striking out four batters.

Williamsport went to Jed Boyle in the 7th inning. Boyle, who entered with a 0.79 ERA through 11.1 innings, was tagged for four runs on three hits. All three hits were of the extra base variety. The St. John’s righty was chased after two-thirds of an inning.

Tyler Dietz surrendered two mor runs over a third of an inning, before being replaced by Merit Jones. Jones would be able to silence the Black Bears over 1,2 innings, keeping the deficit at 6-0.

The Crosscutters had their chances, leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the 6th and again in the bottom of the 8th inning. In total, the Cutters left 12 runners on base and went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

The loss runs the Cutters current skid to six-straight games as they have been swept in three-straight series. With the loss, the Cutters fall under .500 (12-13) for the first time this summer.

After a league-wide off day Monday, the Crosscutters will start a three-game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Niles, Ohio.
